About me

I believe that each person is on a unique journey. Each person has their own story and when life becomes overwhelming we loose sight of our path on that journey. Therapy is a collaborative effort - it is the persons' journey and the therapist is a guide. Each person has the ability to find their way within their environment to be the best they want to be. Being "stuck" or "unsure" of your path can be the catalyst to making changes that you have been afraid to make.

The above holds for teens as well. I have worked in the school system; foster care group homes, a mental health facility and in private practice. I learned that no matter what age those teen years the require; respect, honesty, collaboration w/parents/caregiver(s) and feeling heard by the therapist. My approach is three prong: teen - parents/caregiver and therapist. Using real world situations based on what has already been experienced by the teen, brings more understanding and allows the teen to learn critical thinking skills at a time of life when most decisions are based in "feelings" rather than thought. I enjoy working with the teens and parents/caregivers. Using a sense of humor, metaphors, knowledge, experience and realizing that it is critical for all parties to have a say in the nature of the treatment plan allows the journey to unfold successfully for the teen.

After trying a few therapists that weren’t working for me, I was matched with Sheryl and she is brilliant. If you want to change things in your perspective and in your life, this is the therapist who will guide you through to your truths. I really appreciate her!

Since I entered the teencounseling.com I changed a couple of therapists to find a good one for myself, I almost quit when I matched with Sheryl Winkle. She is good at touching the essential points and connecting the dots well. I am not comfortable talking about myself but I was comfortable with her by how she approached my points. She comforts you even if the topic is so difficult for you to explain and you start to look at the problems in different ways and expand your awareness. She is timely replies and insight. It is not easy to find a welcoming and empathetic therapist like her.

Sheryl Winkler is a great example of an outstanding therapist. Her counseling style includes helping you identify the root of the problems you face and guiding you to find realistic solutions so that you can live with contentment. She responds to messages in a timely manner and provides resources to aid in the journey of understanding your emotions and processing them in a healthy manner. She has never rushed any of our meetings and still finds a way to provide a plethora of information in what feels like the perfect amount of time. It’s clear that her experience has taught her a lot, and I am grateful to have been paired with her.
