About me
My name is Sherry Farrell. I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in California. I received a bachelor’s degree from San Francisco State University in Clinical Psychology. After graduation, I was immediately hired at an alternative school where I had interned my senior year. I worked with children ages 12-18 from a variety of cultural backgrounds and living situations. All of the children were placed there because they were unsuccessful in a traditional school environment and had behavioral or emotional challenges. Some of these included Conduct disorder, ADHD, Schizophrenia, Bipolar and Major Depressive Disorder and attachment issues. The majority lived in foster care or a single parent household. I learned a great deal from these amazing kids and was inspired to pursue and earn my Masters in Counseling Psychology at the University of San Francisco.
I have experience working with children of all ages and families in both a clinic and school based setting. I have dealt with issues such as social isolation, bullying, ADHD, depression, anxiety, suicide ideation and difficulties coping with family stress. I have helped families work through parenting issues, cope with the impact of physical or mental disabilities, navigate divorce and blend new families. I have also been successful helping young people deal with transitioning to college, work through relationship difficulties and process the impact of addiction, abuse, identity questions and mood disorders.
I thoroughly enjoy getting to know every client I meet on a deep level. I value compassion, understanding, safety and empowerment. I believe therapy is a partnership where the client and therapist work together to explore what is causing stress, how to best address those stressors and come up with strategies that will lead to positive, enduring change. I use a variety of therapeutic approaches such as Client Centered, Solution focused, Narrative, Motivational and Cognitive Behavioral therapy. I also find art and play therapy to be an extremely useful tool with children.
Seeking therapy for yourself or your child can bring up feelings of fear and uncertainty. Once you make that first step, you are embarking on a journey that will allow us to work together to move from a place of stress and unhappiness to one of hope, relief and lasting change. I can’t wait to get started!

These quotes represent just a few of the many positive reviews that we have received for Sherry Farrell. We don't pay anyone to provide their review and they are all made voluntarily. Some people's experience receiving therapy with Teen Counseling might be different.
I have never wanted to start talking to a therapist mostly because I don't want to talk to people about my problems. Sherry is easy to talk to and I don't seem to have that issue with her. Highly Recommended!
Sherry is very kind, attentive, and a wonderful listener. We value her opinions and advice very much. Highest of praise for Sherry.
Sherry is amazing and I don't want to think of where my life would be without her counsel.
Sherry is the best therapist I ever had. I respect her guidance
Sherry is a fantastic therapist. I had some hesitations as a diverse person due to previous experiences but she understood everything and approached my personal obstacles with compassion. Great combination of listening and providing tools.
She is very good at listening and giving advice. I felt heard and appreciated sessions with her. She was very good at responding to my messages outside of our scheduled times and worked hard to accommodate me even if it was in between meetings
Sherry is such a great listener. She offers great suggestions that have helped me tremendously. She works with me when my schedule changes unexpectedly, can’t thank her enough for that! She’s truly great at her job.
Sherry is a great communicator and really helps facilitate discussions that are otherwise difficult to have with my spouce, I think she's been very helpful for our relationship thus far.

Love Sherry. I feel like she’s invested in my life and remembers key elements of what’s going on.
Sherry is an amazing therapist and human being. She really took the time to build a relationship with us, understand us, and has seen us through our good and bad times - always with such calm and professionalism. She also somehow remembers things from months and months ago and I seriously don’t know how. Highly recommend her.
My time with Sherry has been incredibly valuable to me. I truly look forward to our sessions.
