About Me

Hello,
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor, Nationally Certified Counselor, Professional Teaching and Standards Board certified K-12 counselor with 19 years of experience. In addition to working with teenagers, I provide individual, couples, and marriage and family therapy. I work with a wide range of issues ranging from anxiety, depression, anger management, grief, transitions, DSM disorders and beyond. I use a Solution Focused approach in counseling; this is based in cognitive-behavioral ideology. I also use Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). This means that I will share any idea, theory, model, philosophy or life experience that will support the client's growth and development in counseling. I mix counseling and education to help clients understand what may be going on in their lives and let them decide what they want to do about it.

My counseling style is warm, interactive, and direct. I believe in treating everyone with respect, sensitivity, and compassion. I will tailor our dialog and treatment plan to meet your unique and specific needs. I also encourage educational tools for clients to learn about and understand the issues they may be struggling with.

In working with minors, I use discussion (as described above), athletics (as appropriate) and role modeling to help youth decide for themselves their values, needs, wants and hopes. I am aware that families vary greatly in these areas and I will keep in mind and respect parental preferences when working with youth. I do request to meet with a parent or legal guardian prior to the counseling sessions starting with the minor client.

Congratulations, it takes courage to seek for a more fulfilling and happier life and to take the first steps towards a change. If you are ready to take that step I am here to support and empower you.

I look forward to working with you!

Shawnna changed my perspective on how helpful counseling could be. My partner and I couldn't be happier with Shawnna and how down to earth and real she is. She truly listens and made it clear from the start that she's here to help us! She gives meaningful advice based on our issues and follows up with helpful tools that we continue to use. Would 100% recommend Shawnna.

Shawnna is awesome! I am so happy that we matched and we have been able to work through so many things in a short month. I plan to continue working with her and her knowledge and expertise have been such an amazing help to me. She is a great listener and really helps you look at situations from all angles and will tell you what you need to hear no matter what. She provides helpful worksheets that give different perspectives and really allow you to work through certain aspects of anxiety and depression that aren’t always easy to get through. She respond very fast and is there anytime I need her. I appreciate her so, so much!

Shawnna is a very helpful and positive person. She works well with my family. She is a very good listener and has taught my family a lot about communicating. I would definitely recommend her as a counselor. She would be great for someone seeking a counselor for their child, their self, couples, families.

I've tried quite a few therapists off and on since childhood and Shawnna is by far the best one I've ever had. Her professional insight and advice in both individual and family therapy have been very helpful to me. I highly recommend Shawnna as an effective and relevant therapist.

Shawnna is a wonderful listener. Every session I have with her she is able to acknowledge and clarify what I am thinking, so that we can get to the root of the problem and come up with an action plan to improve my mental health. She has provided me helpful resources and activities to work on in between sessions, which has helped me overcome every day stressors, as well as work on issues that I have been dealing with for years. It has been reassuring to know that I am not the only one who struggles with negative thoughts and emotions, and that I have handled them like any other person would. I am thankful for the knowledge and skills she has shared with me so that I can teen counseling happiness in my life once again.
