About me

Hello! If you are a teen, this part is for you:
Congrats on reaching out! It may or may not have been easy to seek therapy, but view therapy as an experiment. If you like it after a few sessions, keep on coming! If you don't, then you are welcome to find another therapist or stop therapy. The decision is yours. You have control in this situation, and I am here to hang out and chat about what is on your mind. Plus, you won't be judged. What you say in therapy is yours alone, unless you are telling me that you have an emergency or a few other situations. We'll talk about this in advance so you'll know. I'm a techie as well as creative and I'm easygoing. So, are you ready to start your experiment? I look forward to hearing from you!

Hello! If you are an adult or caregiver searching for counseling for your teen, this is for you:
Within therapy, your teen is my focus. I tailor my counseling approach to match your teen's unique personality and needs. I focus on your teen's strengths in order to help build or improve upon a teen's mental and emotional foundation. I use a collaborative approach to therapy, which means that I won't tell your teen what to do. We will work together to move toward where your teen wants to be. Sometimes that may include working with you and your teen together, but this depends upon your teen and the situation. I am excited to get to know your teen!

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Texas, License #80071. I am a National Certified Counselor. My background is in electrical engineering, so I can meet your teen from a highly logical and technical perspective. I also enjoy creativity and the arts, so if your teen prefers something more holistic or creative, I can provide that as well. If you want to know more about my qualifications, publication, training, or work experience, please see my website at https://sharlashaffer.com click on 'CV'.

Legally, in the state of Texas, parents or legal guardians can request information regarding a teen's sessions. However, I ask that you let your teen tell you what your teen wants to share. For a teen to open up in therapy, a sense of privacy is usually needed. Please know that under certain situations I legally have to speak with you. You and your teen will know about these situations in advance.

I look forward to hearing from you! Please take the chance and make the change. Therapy can be fun. It can be difficult at times, since change can be difficult. However, the goal is to walk with your teen on this journey toward the life your teen desires!

Sincerely,

Sharla

We absolutely loved our time with Sharla!! She is amazing and caring and my daughter definitely “clicked” with her more than any other therapist she’s ever had!

Sharla was very receptive, thoughtful and respectful in her counselling and I felt heard and my experience validated. A profoundly articulate counsellor, Sharla helped me to help myself and guided me in my road to healing. I felt safe and confident that I could talk to her about anything. I am profoundly grateful for her and would recommend her to anyone seeking therapy.

Sharla is very helpful, I’m generally a new “client” of hers but already feel as if I can talk about anything. I look forward in being able to have sessions with her in the future!

Sharla has been extremely receptive since the first interaction with me. She brings a lot of positive energy and always meets me where I am. Her consistent availability helps me to feel comfortable to be myself with her.

Work with me!
