About me
Hello and welcome. I am a Licensed and Board-Certified Therapist in Maryland and Pennsylvania with 9 years of professional work experience. I am a certified, as well as a lifelong, practitioner of meditation and yoga. My clinical experience comes from providing direct mental health and behavioral counseling for young children, teens, and adults with a variety of presenting issues including stress/anxiety, depression, grief and loss, relationship and family issues, trauma recovery, racialized and intergenerational trauma recovery, mood instability, ADHD and gender identity.
I am passionate about using contemplative and somatically focused approaches to guide clients to learn about themselves, regulate their nervous systems and use body/nonverbal awareness, safely and without judgment, to evolve from suffering to a stronger sense of self.
As a second generation South Asian CIS woman, I find it particularly important to approach the therapeutic relationship with sensitivity and respect for multi/cross-cultural factors, as well as with a clear anti-oppression approach as it relates to the equity of all beings. My clinical experience is varied and across settings, as I have worked in community mental health agencies, school settings, and in private practice. Much of my work includes working with BIPOC communities, youth, families, and adults. I have worked in other countries to train individuals and peace building organizations to be first responders to mental health crises after experiencing natural disasters and to guide people in the helping professions through burn out and vicarious trauma.
We will work together utilizing narrative therapy, motivational interviewing, trauma focused therapy, DBT and other mindfulness-based approaches, neuroscience, Gestalt, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Structural Systems to unlock your full potential. As someone that has worked with children for a few decades, I believe play (trying things out) and curiosity are ideal for healing. My top priority is to meet you where you are with respect, sensitivity, and compassion. I will tailor our dialog and treatment plan to meet your unique and specific needs.
It takes a lot of strength and commitment to work towards a more balanced, more fulfilling and happier life. No matter what you are working towards, I am here to support you in your exploration and nurture your sense of agency and empowerment, so you make choices that align with your best life.

Reviews
These quotes represent just a few of the many positive reviews that we have received for Saumya Kaup. We don't pay anyone to provide their review and they are all made voluntarily. Some people's experience receiving therapy with Teen Counseling might be different.
Saumya seems to have a really strong command/expertise in the area of support that we're seeking and she has made some great suggestions. We look forward to working with her more.
