My name is Sarah Nickerson and I was born and raised in upstate New York, before moving to Virginia in 2012. I received by BA in Psychology at SUNY New Paltz and my Masters in Social Work from the University at Buffalo. I currently hold my LCSW license. I have over 10 years of experience working with children and families with behavioral issues, trauma, anxiety, depression and anger issues. I have experience in the Foster Care System, Child Protection Services, Multisystemic Therapy, and Equine Therapy. I also come from a Christian background and add Christian values and a Christian lens to our sessions, if desired. I believe in treating everyone with respect, sensitivity, and compassion. I will tailor our dialog and treatment plan to meet your unique and specific needs. Taking the first step to sign up for therapy can take courage and I am proud of you for getting started.

Sarah is kind, patient, and truly understands how to connect with people. She creates a safe and comfortable space, and you can feel that she genuinely cares. I highly recommend her.
Working with Sarah has truly been life changing. From day one, she created a space where I felt safe, heard, and understood. I didn’t realize how much I needed that. Her ability to balance compassion with directness has helped me confront things I used to avoid and grow in ways I never thought possible.
Sarah is insightful, patient, and incredibly skilled at helping me connect the dots between my past and present. She doesn’t just listen. She helps me move forward. I genuinely look forward to our sessions, and I leave each one feeling more grounded and empowered.
I can’t recommend Sarah enough. If you’re looking for a therapist who really gets it and will walk beside you through the hard stuff with both wisdom and heart, Sarah is the one.
Sarah is easy to talk to which helps me to discuss the hard things. She's very attentive and provides professional and timely feedback.
She was very knowledgeable and helpful!
