About me

Welcome!! I’m excited you are considering me as your therapist, but more importantly, congratulations on being brave enough to ask for help! In counseling the key to any working therapeutic relationship, especially via the internet, is understanding who you are speaking with on the other side of the screen. So, here's a little about me! My name is Samantha and I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and National Certified Counselor. I’ve been a therapist for over 5 years and absolutely love what I do!! When I am not helping people such as yourself on Teen Counseling, I see clients in a private practice setting and I also work with teens in a juvenile detention center. My experiences in counseling have led me to work with children, teens, adults, couples and families. I love working with people of all ages to help them to find their passion in life, remove road blacks that are keeping them from being their best self, and learn to live a life they have always dreamed.

Teenagers!! Most teenagers are afraid to ask for help or feel forced into counseling by their parents. For both of these reasons, I find that working with teenagers can be unpredictable, yet exciting. The "teen years" are filled with so much growing and chaos it can be hard to navigate on your own. Whether dealing with messy break-ups, problems with your parents, friends coming and going in your life, and the inevitable hormones, being a teenager is exhausting. I've found in my experience with teenagers that most feel ignored or unheard. When working with teens I find that the best approach is to be open to listening, validate their experiences, and most importantly be honest. Whether I'm working with kids or adults, my focus is always on what is best for each individual client. As you will see below I utilize a variety of different modalities. Don't let that list deter you, if what we are doing in sessions isn't working, if my approach isn't meeting your needs, than I want to know about it so that I can make adjustments to fit your life, your needs. The therapeutic relationships is only effective if open and honest communication comes from both sides. I don't make promises during sessions except for one: I will always be straightforward and honest with you.

In counseling the modalities I most often use include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, stress management, mood management, anxiety reduction, and assertiveness training. My approach is generally solution-focused and strength-based, meaning that my overall goal is to empower you to explore all possible scenarios/solutions, discover what will empower you the best, and work towards accomplishing all of your goals.

She is so flexible with me that therapy does not seem like a burden. I have a busy schedule right now with irregularities and travel and when I need her she's there. The weekly/routine check-ins occur regardless of whether I respond so when things so down, it's nice to see the messages were sent. It's been great and much better than the previous therapy system I was using.
