About me

Being young is filled with exciting new experiences that can be positive and difficult. It is a time in our lives when the world expects you to show maturity, yet often tells you that you are too young for so many things. Adolescence is a stage during which we are seeking to find out who we are and who we want to be, filled with choices that can affect the rest of your life. Being a teenager can feel like a scary time in our lives and there are challenges and conflicts that cause us to need someone to listen and accept us for who we are.
My name is Mayra Vega, and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in the state of New York with over 10 years of experience in the mental health field. I have worked with clients with a wide range of mental health issues including depression, anxiety, trauma, relationship issues, career challenges and life changes. My specialty is LGBTQ related issues in adolescence and throughout the lifespan. However, I have a great deal of experience working with teens, and issues related to homelessness, immigration status, and family of origin.

My counseling style is client-centered, strengths-based, and culturally sensitive. I am committed to providing my clients with an environment that is non-judgmental, supportive, and interactive. My approach is always determined by the individual client’s needs and I believe in treating everyone with respect, sensitivity, and compassion without stigmatizing labels. My approach combines cognitive-behavioral, humanistic, and rational-emotive behavior therapy. I strive to adapt and mold therapy goals to meet each individual’s unique and specific needs.
**Unfortunately, I do not have specific training in the areas of OCD, Autism, Sexual dysfunctions, Borderline Personality Disorder, and Neuro Cognitive Disorders.
I look forward to working with you on the path toward self-love and acceptance.

My son meets with Mayra and is happy with his meetings. Only met twice so far but we are happy. Mayra responds fast and accommodates our busy schedule.

Mayra is a positive influence who gives me unbiased feedback. She is able to see my issues without emotional attachment, which is helpful.

I was very pessimistic about therapy before finding Mayra after several negative experiences but she made me feel comfortable right away (not a small feat!) and I've noticed a significant improvement in my anxiety after only a few weeks.

Even after only two sessions with Mayra, I have been able to come out of our sessions with actionable steps to my struggles. She pushes me out of my comfort zone and makes me feel like I can do the hard things. She's been great so far!
