About me
The teenage years can be challenging for teens as well as for their parents as the teen seeks independence as they prepare to become an adult. Teens are learning to make their own choices (sometimes not the choices the parents would make for them), choose an identity, find their peer group. And, this can lead to experimenting with new ideas, changes in mood, and, changes in interests and goals. Parents may feel at a loss with all these changes and challenges. But, staying the course, continuing to offer guidelines and support, maintaining open communication in a structured and supportive environment will assist the teen in reaching his/her full potential. Parents must also be aware of early warning signs and how to get the help/support they need to get their teen back on track.
I have worked significantly with children 1-21 and their families in homes/foster/adoptive homes, school, community, group homes, juvenile detention facilities for the majority of the 27+ years I have been a therapist . I have also worked with children in military families within a school/home/community setting. I have helped these families navigate difficulties, gain increased positive communication, and, improved relationships. I hear both the teen and the parents and can bridge that gap with guidance and support while bringing in school/community to provide the teen and their parents with a more cohesive and fulfilling environment. I hold LCSW (Licensed Clinical Social Work) licenses in both Wisconsin (8198-123) and California (29109).

Reviews
These quotes represent just a few of the many positive reviews that we have received for Mary Allen. We don't pay anyone to provide their review and they are all made voluntarily. Some people's experience receiving therapy with Teen Counseling might be different.
I have had one session so far with Mary Allen and I have a very good feeling about what we can achieve working together. I didn’t not expect we be in contact so much even outside of our sessions . Mary Allen spent a huge amount of time before and in between our session collecting information from us in order to be prepared to work during session . Very satisfied with this service so far.
Very helpful
Great to talk to and have been flexible with my job schedule changes and has learned and listen through my changes in my life events and achieve my goals .

Mary Allen is by far the best therapist I've ever had, and it's taken me a few to find someone who gels as well as she does. She listens and offers advice without dumbing things down or ignoring the other work I've already put in. She also checks in frequently and it really feels like she cares and goes the extra mile. I really look forward to our conversations- not just because they help so much but because she is honestly a lot of fun and so easy to talk with!!!

Mary is so wonderful. She has been incredibly responsive and compassionate to the problems discussed. I would very much recommend her!
My husband and I have worked with a few therapists over the years. Our experience with Mary really stands out. She has a good way of getting to the heart of an issue, moderating respectfully but effectively, and guiding each conversation to resolution. When we are not in session, we find ourselves referring to the very useful tools Mary has taught us. We feel very lucky to have found her.
