About me

Hi. I’m Margaret Doman. I am licensed Clinical Social Worker
Children and adolescents are not adults. They lack the autonomy and power over their lives that adults have. They have to endure or manage life on terms set by others, while at the same time manage the challenge of growth and development in every area and facet of their lives: self, strengths, deficits, home, family. school, peers, teacher, curriculum, community and more.

Adolescents appear to live and feel more intensely, but their brains, bodies, and experiences are still developing. There are many factors predictable, unpredictable, inherent, or otherwise that confound their ability to function and cope as they should in order to be safe, healthy and happy or adjusted.

Life can overwhelm them, challenge their coping capacities, shake their sense of security and status as a person, in life, among peers, assault their self esteem. Negative messages and experiences can set them on an ever increasing downward spiral of unhappiness, low self esteem, anxiety, depression, problems with life and relationships, and a sense of futility and hopelessness.

Timely intervention is necessary to for present wellbeing, and to avert future problems. It is important for adolescents to develop a good sense of self, develop functional social and coping skills, and develop confidence to successfully negotiate and navigate the world ahead.

My professional training was with an emphasis in Clinical Social with Individuals and Families with the utilization of Psychodynamic processing and Therapeutic Counselling models including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Rational Emotional Behavior therapy, Dialectical behavior Therapy, and Brief Therapy among others.
I have worked directly with children through adolescents in Inpatient, outpatient and community settings providing Individual and Group Therapy. I have worked with clients with a variety of presenting issues and dilemmas, including depression, anger management, stress and anxiety, grief and loss, marital, family and parenting difficulties, relationship issues, adjustment and attachment disorders, trauma and emotional abuse and mental health disorders.

I have worked indirectly as a Clinical Supervisor over Children's Mental Health programs which provided Therapeutic and Case Management services to children who suffered displacement, separation, trauma neglect and abuse and accompanying behavioral and mental health issues.
I have worked as a program supervisor over an Adolescent Program providing Shelter, Behavior Modification, Individual and Family Counselling for troubled teens.

From my personal experience I bring decades of experience, including living and working within a variety of cultures, religious and ethnic communities, making me aware and sensitive to the nuances of individuals’ diversity and challenges.

As a therapist, and as an adult member of this world community, I want to embrace any opportunity to help adolescents find their fit, develop and master the skills to grow and thrive in their current environment and circumstances , as well as in their future adult life.

I am here to help.

Margaret is helpful, neutral and fair, and knows how to help us to understand each other without apportioning any blame on either party. She places a lot of emphasis on giving couples the tools to tackle their issues together, so that they can carry through their new skills and knowledge in the long run without being stuck in therapy forever.

Margaret helped me through some of my lowest points and I couldn't thank her enough. She pushed me, questioned my poor choices and inner thoughts, really listened and took good notes on the things I'd say, and I could tell she genuinely cares about seeing her patients smile and seeing them happy. I feel like I'm in a completely different headspace from the time I started with Margaret to the time I finished. I'd recommend her to anyone who simply needs someone to talk to

Margaret is a wonderful listener and loves to ask me all the question I've ever wanted to been asked. She really explores who I am and meets me where I'm at. I've never felt so heard and understood. Her methods are not confined to any one way of therapy and for that, I am making endless strides towards my best self.

I already feel that she's a MUCH better match for me than the previous therapist (from whom I switched). Margaret is professional, and friendly while also respecting the boundaries of a therapist-client relationship. She also seems very smart, and I respect that. I'm excited to be working with her; it makes me hopeful that I can make progress.
