About me

Hello, my name is Malia Nompone, and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Texas. I have experience counseling in a variety of settings, including outpatient mental health (child/adolescent team), a residential facility for teen girls, public education, and private practice. I have extensive experience teaching at the college/university level and in special education through the public school system. I currently serve as a therapist and behavioral specialist to students in a public school district, where I serve students age 4 through 22. My areas of specialization and interest include the challenges of teen/young adult life, parent/child relationships, parent training, play therapy, career guidance, issues facing special needs youth, spiritual growth, and relational conflicts. I am certified in CPI Non-Violent Crisis Intervention and also a certified NOVA Crisis Responder.
My approach with clients is positive and relational. I seek to empower my clients to find and use their strengths as we work together to accomplish goals. Although many teens are motivated to work with a counselor, I have counseled many who are reluctant about the process, find it difficult to trust, or are not sure that anyone can help them. I am aware of the courage that it takes to reach out to others, and do not take that effort lightly. I will work to earn the respect and trust of my teen clients and create a safe place for growth. I incorporate a variety of therapeutic modalities, including but not limited to: emotionally-focused therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy, and solution-focused therapy. When working with teens, I believe that it is often helpful to involve parents, as much as is desired by both parties. I enjoy helping families communicate and improve their relationships with one another.

Malia makes it easy and comfortable to talk to. I like that she supports me and what I go through and helps coach me through things I am struggling with. Malia is a great listener and she shares her own experiences as well which makes me feel not so much alone. Malia messages back as quick as she can and is very accommodating to your schedule.

I've enjoyed my sessions with Malia. For our first session, she focused on things that are definitely hard for me, but they aren't the most pressing. During the second session, she made sure to ask me what I really needed to get off my chest, and I was able to find the confidence to bring up the things that I'm really struggling with. She takes weekends off, as she should, but during the week normally responds to me within 24 hours. She's professional, but also talks about herself a bit to help me feel a little more comfortable opening up. I'm hopeful again and for that I'm so grateful to her.

I’ve loved having Malia’s support since having my second baby. I struggle off and on with depression, anxiety, anger, fear, and lack of motivation. She helped me feel seen, and gave me a lot of grace when I had none for myself. I appreciated how she shared about her own parenting experiences too. She’s a gift!

Love the platform and the ease of use. My teen is comfortable being in her own setting and opens up easier— or so it seems.

Super sweet and understanding. She makes me feel like a I'm speaking with a confidant and tries hard to tailor the experience. She also provides resources that help to clarify and diversify the need at hand.

Malia is such a warm, attentive person. Her calm demeanor allowed me to feel comfortable opening up to her from the very beginning. Opening up about your struggles can be very challenging, and it's so important to feel comfortable, heard, and understood when communicating. I feel like I have these things when speaking to Malia. She uses her professional and personal experience to relate to me and guide our sessions. She is always coming up with great exercises that help me to further explore how to better understand and improve upon my experience and situations. I look forward to continuing my journey with Malia, and highly recommend her as a Counselor.
