About me

I am a licensed clinical social worker/counselor working in Murphy NC. I have over 25 years of experience working with individuals, families, adolescents, youth, and children. I have worked with clients with a wide range of concerns including depression, anxiety, relationship issues, parenting problems, and more. I am a trained professional in trauma related issues. I have been a parent in many aspects, single parent, step parent, and grandparent raising grandchildren. I believe that being a parent is the most difficult and most rewarding thing a person can ever do in their life.

My work with teens has included teens who have issues with depression, suicidal ideation or attempts, and those who have behavior problems. I believe in being respectful to teens, being truthful and straight-forward while allowing them to express themselves. I use psycho-education and some expressive arts therapies with those who are willing to actively participate. In many cases I am able to use EMDR, eye movement desensitization and reprocessing. a non-intrusive therapy where the client doesn't have to provide details of what is bothering them, "only the headlines". EMDR is an scientifically proven, evidence-based technique used to rectify many symptoms of trauma, depression, anxiety, and more. I can provide more information on this if interested.

I have extensive experience working with parents and I desire to include them, jointly and separately, in my work with teens. In today's world, there are so many more challenges for both teens and parents, and I respect the struggle that parents go through in navigating this world that we often don't understand.

My counseling philosophy is one of mutual respect and acceptance. I believe that all people have struggles at times, and we often learn coping mechanisms in some situations that get in our way in later circumstances. I believe that all people can benefit from a warm and interactive therapeutic experience. I believe in treating everyone with respect, sensitivity, and compassion. I know this is especially important for teens.

It takes courage to come to therapy for the first time. I respect the experience of taking that first step. I desire to support you and your teen in seeking a more fulfilling and happier life. If you are ready, I am here to support and empower you.

I look forward to working with you!

I am so happy teen counseling matched me with Lisa! I think that’s one of the advantages of the teen counseling platform. Since there is a greater number of therapists in their network and you aren’t restricted by region, you’re able to be matched to someone that really fits your needs.

Anyways, back to Lisa - I’ve been seeing her weekly for about 2 months and she’s been a great listener and communicator. She also lightens the mood when needed. It’s hard to talk about your feelings, but Lisa makes it easier. She’s been super helpful with my past and current family problems. Cannot recommend her enough in this short review.

Lisa is simply amazing! She is knowledgeable, highly educated, and down to earth all at the same time. She makes it very easy to open up to and has constructive insight. I would highly recommend her to anyone.

Thank you so much for helping my daughter get comfortable in her own skin. My daughter has always been shy and not interact much with people. My daughters counselor has helped her discover her self and better understand her emotions. My daughter has gotten comfortable talking with her and my daughter said she understands her and she is very carving in many ways.

Thank You ;)
