About me

I am a licensed independent social worker in private practice in the state of Iowa. I have worked in geographic locations with diverse demographics, from rural to urban environments. I bring 25 years of experience working as an individual and family therapist working with clients with a wide range of concerns including depression, anxiety, relationship issues, parenting-child communication issues and managing behavioral challenges as well as parenting and direct work with emotional/behavioral special needs children and adolescents included Oppositional Defiant Disorder and ADHD across the lifespan. I have expertise working with physical, sexual, and emotional post trauma in both children and adults. An additional specialty of mine is that I work with young people who identify with the LGBTQ community or are exploring whether or not that is an identity that fits for them. I hold no agenda except to provide education, acceptance and support for our LGBT and Questioning youth. This demographic has the highest rate of suicide and self harm and my goal is to work with them and their families to not only keep them alive but to create a better understanding of what is happening and encourage self love and acceptance regardless of their identification while encouraging communication and education with their parents and caregivers.

My counseling style is down to earth and accessible. My current clients tell me that they feel understood and never judged, and that they trust my honest, straightforward feedback. My teens especially tell me that I am honest, real and no BS, lol, but I consider those things a compliment. I believe in treating everyone with dignity, respect, sensitivity, and compassion. My approach combines cognitive-behavioral, humanistic, psychodynamic, trauma processing and family systems techniques for a holistic, eclectic approach tailored to fit you and your teens individual needs. We will create a treatment plan with everyone's goals in mind and together, work to help you and your teenager achieve the change you all want.

I appreciate Lisa's perspective enormously and take great comfort in her counseling. She's genuine and caring, and I feel safe to be completely honest with her. I hope everyone finds a therapist that they can connect with like I feel I can connect with Lisa.

I can’t even explain how well Lisa connects with me and intuitively understands my needs. She is truly able to dig into the hard stuff, the root of my pain and problems and works with me to find and hone in on the tools I need to grow as an individual. Lisa truly holds me accountable but also teaches me to forgive myself.
I can’t express my gratitude enough to Lisa. She’s really guided me over the last 4 years that I’ve worked with her and she truly is the best therapist I’ve ever had.

I thought I would have trouble opening up on this platform but talking/chatting with Lisa has been a breeze so far, even with just starting.
