I grew up outside of Dallas, TX and received my undergraduate degree from Ole Miss University with a bachelors’ degree in Art with an emphasis in oil painting. I spent the next decade living and working in various mountainous towns around the United States as a PSIA certified snow ski instructor during the winters and working with horses during the summers as a trail guide, director of several youth camp equine programs, and a farrier. I'm certified as an equine therapy horse specialist and mental health professional through EAGALA (Equine Assisted Growth and Learning Association) and worked on an equine therapy team while earning a masters’ degree from Hardin Simmons University in Counseling and Human Development. I rescued a dog that I utilize in the therapy process during appropriate in person sessions. His name is “HEY”.
I have experience working with the teen population not only as a professional therapist but as a instructor, coach, and guide. Throughout my counseling career I have worked with the previously mentioned demographic struggling with depression, anxiety, stress, bipolar disorder, eating disorders, self-harm, post-traumatic stress disorder, relationship issues, personality disorders, trauma, grief, and substance abuse. I utilize a wide range of therapy modalities and believe that the therapeutic process is organic and needs to be flexible. I believe in a Humanistic approach that emphasizes human uniqueness, positive qualities, and individual potential. I incorporate Logotherapy principles, if appropriate, that are based on the premise that the human person is motivated by a “will to meaning,” an inner pull to find their purpose in life. Life has meaning and purpose under all circumstances.
I look forward to working along your side,
Koyt Kifer, M.Ed., LPC, LCDC

Koyt Kifer is one of the kindest and most gentle people I've ever met. When I started teen counseling I wasn't quite sure what to expect, and didn't realize it would turn out to be such a good experience. I had been dealing with significant mental health issues including anxiety, depression, and PTSD, and Koyt was able to not only make me feel comfortable opening up but actually recommended very useful coping methods for my lifestyle. He is such a caring individual and I never felt for one minute that I was wasting his time or rambling needlessly (something I've commonly felt with other therapists). We've been working together for a couple of months and it has been so eye opening. I would recommend Koyt to anyone who is nervous about therapy or extremely anxious about talking to people in general. He is so nonjudgmental and very amiable. Koyt is absolutely correct when he says, "life has meaning and purpose under all circumstances". Thanks for helping me see that, Koyt.
It's taken me some time to kick this snow ball off the hill. He's been very understanding... I just hope he's ready for the avalanche this snow ball is going to start.
Koyt is attentive and gives positive feedback and recommendations. He is very knowledgeable in stress, grief and PTSD counseling. Clinical application is relevant
to everyday life situations and scenarios.
I went through a lot of therapists and counselors but I never felt at ease or comfortable before like I have with Mr. Kifer. He’s understanding but also straightforward, and he never comes off as condescending or patronizing. I actually feel like this is genuinely helping me, unlike with my past therapists. I also feel like my feelings are acknowledged and not dismissed, which is great because people usually don’t take teenagers seriously, but here I actually feel heard.
To summarize, he’s awesome. I definitely recommend him.
He has helped me so much
Would definitely recommend
Koyt brings a diverse set of skills and experiences to the conversation and is engaging. I recommend working with him. Koyt's training and approachability make him an effective counselor.
Absolutely amazing Guy! So Thankful he is my counselor! Wouldn't trade him for the world. ❤
