About me
I am a mental health counselor licensed in Florida with over 10 years of experience working in mental health. I have spent the bulk of my career providing psychotherapy, psycho-education, case management, treatment planning, and developing and implementing behavioral plans with teens and their families in multiple settings. My experience ranges from working with teens facing many concerns which includes, but is not limited to, family and relationship challenges, depression, self esteem, anxiety, self harm, Autism and ADHD, social media and peer conflict, and identity.
My joy and passion is working with teens. There are many therapists who avoid this developmental stage all together; as it can be considered a very challenging period of transition; however, for me, I enjoy the raw honesty that is often found in my teen clients.
I realize that the teenage years can be challenging especially when it comes to discovering who you are and what your place is in the world. I would be honored to help with that. My teenage clients often describe me as authentic, down to earth, and genuine, and "I keep it real." My approach combines a number of behavioral and solution focused therapies; my style is likened to a coach, as I find the best treatment approach is to walk alongside my teen clients, with respect and consideration for the person they are becoming.
I would be honored to work with your teen, to hear his or her story, and support them on this leg of their journey as they prepare for transition into young adulthood.
I look forward to meeting your amazing teenager!

Reviews
These quotes represent just a few of the many positive reviews that we have received for Kimberly Balkcom. We don't pay anyone to provide their review and they are all made voluntarily. Some people's experience receiving therapy with Teen Counseling might be different.
My Daughter was able to gain a better understanding of what she needs to do to have a better mental state and to have a more productive future emotionally, thanks
Dr Kimberly Balkcom is brilliant, attentive, and supportive. Whatever you’re dealing with, they’ll help you unpack it and see the machinery and habits at work in a positive and actionable light. I’ve looked a long time for a therapist like her and I’m so grateful to be a tap away from her advice. It’s done a lot for my self esteem and has helped me be less anxious and more mindful.
Kimberly was an amazing asset in my life. She has an incredible ability to level difficult situations calmly and professionally. She has a charismatic approach to her work and that made me feel like my issues were being taken seriously. I would highly recommend her to anyone in need of a reference.
We have been so thankful and so blessed that Kimberly was matched with us. She has helped us tremendously in just a few sessions. We highly recommend her to any couple seeking better communication and team building skills!
I was at one of my lowest before meeting Kimberly. I didn’t understand how to get through feelings and how to deal with something bad for the first time. Kimberly helped me through and through with my mental health and as I had more sessions with her I began to understand more about myself and how deal better with my emotions. She was patient, kind and understanding throughout our sessions and I couldn’t ask for a better therapist.
Great for my son
Kimberly was very friendly and professional but also very warm and made me feel very comfortable :)
