I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the state of Louisiana with over six years experience counseling in the high school setting. Besides high school students, I have also worked with prisoners, college students, and adults who struggle with alcohol and drug abuse. My profession has given me the incredible opportunity to encounter so many people, each with their own unique backgrounds and struggles. And therapy is exactly that... a meaningful encounter between two people.
So with regards to treatment plans and theoretical orientations, those to me are secondary to getting to know your son or daughter better and helping him/her assess what will work best in our time together. Though if you are interested in these types of specifics, I do tend to operate from a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy framework. If I could point to any strengths of mine as a therapist, they would be building rapport quickly and empowering clients to make their own decisions. I do not like giving advice. To me that is poor counseling because your child probably gets a lot of "You should do this" or "You need to do that" from others. What I can do is help teenage clients know themselves better and enable them to make better life decisions.
I think it's great that your child is open (hopefully) to the therapeutic process. It takes a lot of courage getting started with something like this but I promise that much of it can be enjoyable and enlightening. Everyone can benefit from counseling. Your teen is no exception. Hopefully we can start soon...

I have appreciated Justin Genovese taking the time to help me sort out the things in my life that are confusing and that I'm struggling with. He listens well, and truly pays attention to the necessary details being shared.
He's a great guy he's helped me greatly since I begin
I chose this type of counseling because my son enjoys gaming. I figured it was kind if inline with what he does so I decided to go this route. So far it seems to be working better than I imagined. I was afraid he may get on for like 10 minutes and not want to do it. While at first I felt that he was a bit reluctant I think that with each session he is growing more comfortable with it.
