I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in Wisconsin with over 14 years of experience helping people re-ignite their motivation in their life areas and personal and other-relatedness. Having completed my Masters program at Cincinnati Christian University in 2007, I have been treating adolescents from ages 13-19. I treat depression, anxiety, OCD, anger issues, behavior issues, trauma issues, and grief, to name some, as well as career and life navigation.
My approach to therapy is eclectic drawing upon Cognitive Behavioral approaches, Solution-Focused and Motivational Interviewing skills, and utilizing therapy tachniques and practice assignments that get into the parts of a person that make up the whole. I focus on clients' strengths and awareness while they challenge the assumptions that limit their potential for fruitful results while doing their own work.
So, what do you want to work on? I invite you to contact me so I can assist you in answering this question and so you can realize a greater potential for your self and other-relatedness.

Joel helps me navigate my life decisions and relationships, both personal and professional. He has helped me establish boundaries in my life and helps me see my thought patterns clearly.
Joel is extremely attentive and caring. I appreciate his calm demeanor and his ability to make therapeutic concepts easily digestible. Thank you, Joel, for your kindness and your expertise!
Joel is very helpful and I have gained a lot of insights into my relationship issues with my mom and learned mechanisms to cope and improve my health
He is so calm and supports my processing. He is not jumping in and offering solutions.
I appreciate Joel’s clear communication and ability to find relevant information to help my child understand and set goals.
I really appreciated my time with Joel despite our short time together. He really helped me frame my thoughts and feelings, and see my issues in a different light, ie helping me not feel so bad about my negative thoughts. He gave me great insight and things to do in response to my thought patterns
Joel has been a great help. He helped me realize some ways of thinking that I have carried onto for a long time. By identifying those things I have been able to completely change how I feel about myself. Sometimes all you need is one or two very good insights to change your perspectives on specific things. Joel has been very good at narrowing down what that is. He’s also very good at echoing back to me what I’m saying in a way that both shows me he’s listening and clarifying to me what the important parts are of what I’m saying.
Joel is a great counselor who knows how to lead and ask good questions. I’ve always felt comfortable and safe with everything we’ve spoken about.
Joel has done a great job listening and giving positive feedback on my communication struggles. Thanks Joel!
I've had sessions with another therapist and I feel Joel has made more progress for us in a short amount of time. I would definitely recommend Joel.
Joel has a wonderful demeanor and is a very good listener. He has a knack for identifying the issues and helping us see the other's perspective. We always leave the session looking forward the next.
Very helpful and kind.
Joel has been a great counselor. He listens and gives great advice.
Joel was extremely knowledgeable in the things we spoke about during our session. I am looking forward to returning to teen counseling soon.
Joel has been very helpful. I was very nervous about starting therapy but he has made it very easy to start the conversation and I’ve always felt ready to schedule the next session right away.
Joel has been great to work with in a time of family conflict and past trauma.
I had a great experience with Joel. He was great at listening to my issues and directing me to the things that I had the influence to make better. He's great at connecting to people and behaviors that make for a healthy mental state.
I feel like my spouse and I are a challenging couple to work with.. I give big shout out to Joel for dealing with our shit.. he always has the right thing to say no matter what we are addressing.
He’s very good at guiding me to realizing and understanding things on my own while still using his knowledge to discuss coping strategies and how to better myself
I have been impressed and grateful that Joel so quickly zeroes in on my needs and is already helping me shape a long-term solution.
We love him.
Very understanding and listens to my concerns
Joel is a great listener. He really helped me feel validated with my feelings in a lot of ways and helps me think more critically.
Joel's a good man, he's calm and gives me different perspectives to look at my problems. God bless him.

Knowledgeable. Patient. Understanding. Helpful.
Joel seems very competent. He seems to understand my issues and has solid strategies to reframe them in a more positive way.
Joel has been amazing. I keep telling everyone how every time he talks he makes such a great point and I am always making notes because everything he says is noteworthy. He knows his stuff and he is a great listener.
Joel is great! A good listener, very responsive to messages and easy to talk to. When I needed help having a difficult conversation with someone in my family, he sent helpful worksheets and offered actionable guidance. Very glad to have worked with him.
In the initial information sharing stage, teen counseling asks a number of questions to determine why a client is potentially seeking help. Additionally, there is a very large and open 'free form' section where you can explain, in your own words, what you are struggling with. From the moment we had our first video session, it was clear Joel had actually read what I had written in free-form. I've filled out countless initial 'here is the problem' worksheets, but this is the first time I felt my counselor had actually read and considered what I was struggling with and the help I needed.
Joel also came to our first session armed with multiple ideas, worksheets, breathing exercises, things I that would immediately help me out (and they all have, immeasurably). This is the first time I've ever felt like a counselor was listening to me and proactively working to help me, and giving me real, tangible exercises, ideas, thought considerations, just... real-world help. I'd recommend him to anyone, anytime.
Joel is awesome. He helped me a ton with my anger issues and helped to identify my triggers and the physical feelings i have leading up to my explosive anger episodes. He was thoughtful and kind and had great analogies and strategies to help me remember what we talked about. I would recommend him to anyone looking to get their anger in check or to work better with others.
I am so thankful we were matched with Joel. He is everything our marriage needed.
I appreciate that Joel always checked in with me to see how things were going and available if I needed to chat about a few things in between my appointments.
Joel is very good. He has given us new tool for communicating with one another. He understands where we are coming from and has been helping us to understand thing that we did understand before .
Joel has made this my best therapy experience ever. In the past, I have received in-person therapy and Talkspace therapy but Joel at teen counseling puts the rest to shame. Before him I was beginning to doubt the usefulness of therapy but this experience has shown me that I was wrong. Joel is as straightforward as they come; I am not being told what I want to hear, but what I NEED to hear, and it is making all the difference.
Joel has been very tentative to our concerns and is great at offering advice and techniques to use on how to strengthen our marriage. He listens fully to what we want to share, ensures he received the information correctly, and discusses each topic. My husband and I both have been very happy with Joel as our counselor.
Very attentive and gives insightful viewpoints on how I can accomplish my interpersonal connections in my personal life. Excellent at what he does
