About me
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the State of Missouri. I graduated from the University of Missouri- Kansas City in 2009 with a Master's degree in Counseling and Guidance with an emphasis in Couples and Family Therapy. While earning my education, I focused on women's issues and relationship dynamics. My work experience includes: domestic violence counselor, crisis therapy, ethics leader, counselor with Child Protective Services focusing on parenting and relationship issues with mothers and trauma work with teen girls, and in private practice with a focus on women's issues and trauma.
I am trained in Trauma-focused therapy and Motivational Interviewing. I use a Client-Centered approach in therapy and implement Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy and Trauma-Focused Therapy into my practice as well. My therapy style is warm and supportive. My thought process is not "what is wrong with you?" but instead I explore "what happened to you?" I believe that "what happened to you?" is the overarching question in which to begin therapy. Anyone could be in your situation. It's a matter of what would it take in someone's life that would put them in your situation. This mind set allows for a judgment free and supportive approach to empowering you to reach your goals.

Reviews
These quotes represent just a few of the many positive reviews that we have received for Jennifer Evans Powis. We don't pay anyone to provide their review and they are all made voluntarily. Some people's experience receiving therapy with Teen Counseling might be different.
Glad we have her!
Absolutely amazing!
I appreciate Jennifer so much. She's always concerned about my privacy and my mental all being. She's a wonderful listener and so compassionate
She responded throughly, and in a timely fashion. She understands my needs and provides many ways to work and cope through them
Jennifer has been my therapist for several months. She has helped me to be more assertive and also helped me to not ruminate on things that have happened in my past. I highly recommend her.
Jennifer has been an absolute blessing in my life! She listens to my issues, and then helps me understand why I’m feeling this way. She helps me to cope with, or overcome the obstacles currently creating these feelings. She challenges me to better understand and believe in myself, and take the steps needed for my progression. If you’re looking for someone to be there, Jennifer is your person!
She is so caring about you on a personal level. I adore Jennifer Powis!

Jennifer is amazing! So caring and understanding!
Although I have only had a few sessions with Jennifer I feel a great connection and feel like she really understands my faith and values. I look forward to continuing to work with her and watch my progress.
Jennifer is a great listener and finds even the less obvious issues easily, for me to work on. I love her check-ins between visits.
I was a little hesitant that teen counseling would work for me. When I signed up and was matched with Jennifer, I immediately felt like she understood my concerns and validated my feelings. Not only does she listen to me, she helps me develop tools and plans for how to navigate my emotions. I would recommend her to anyone!
