About Me

I have a master's degree from the University of Central Florida, in the field of Counselor Education. I have been licensed as a Mental Health Counselor in the state of Florida since 2001. I have worked a combination of private practice, agency work as well as with the public school system. I am married, I have three children and one grandson. My foundation is that of a Person Centered Counselor, and important aspects of this include the use of empathy, unconditional positive regard and warmth. I also rely heavily on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. I have a lot of experience working with adolescent children. The adolescent years are some of the most challenging of a persons life and I have a lot of experience helping teens and their parents navigate through these challenges. I find that a career as a counselor is a very fulfilling occupation and I truly enjoy helping individual's find a healthier path with their life.

James is an excellent listener who takes good notes and summarizes what the client shares. He has great empathy and is encouraging. He offers good advice and wisdom. He is respectful of a clients background and spiritual beliefs. He is easy to talk to. I have sensed an improvement in my mental health in 2 months of weekly therapy and plan to continue with James.

James is a calming therapist. You are quickly made aware that he listens well, because he asks questions that assure you he is engaged with the topics you discuss. He’s shown flexibility regarding his approach, in order to match what I needed. If you are open to his simple suggestions, you will find they can be thought-provoking, even if the ideas might have occurred to you before. He does not shed any negativity on things or people you discuss and offers constructive ways of moving past difficulties in your life.
