Dr. Jacob Santhouse

About Me

I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor in both Illinois and Idaho. I have 5 years of experience working as a counselor.

My speciality as a counselor is working with teenagers and young adults on the challenges that they face on a daily basis as the grow and experience life changes.

The style of counseling I most often utilize draws from Narrative and Person Centered approaches and focuses on exploring your narrative and coming alongside you to empower you to more effectively move forward. The goal focusing on strengths and empowerment is not to ignore or gloss over challenges, but to focus on re-understanding the way that those challenges influence our experiences.

I have a very relational approach to counseling and I believe suffering and joy are both important parts of life and we should not run away from either.

With everyone I work with I do my best to develop an approach that caters specifically to them and the unique things they bring to the table.

I would love the opportunity to work with you!

Dr. Santhouse has become a consistent source of guidance, encouragement, and support during a time of extreme uncertainty. He leaves lots of room for listening during session and shares valuable insights and questions. His empathy and non-judgmental counsel is an important piece of my own journey with mental wellness and I appreciate his work immensely

Dr, Santhouse has a very patient and gentle therapeutic approach. You sense that he is really listening and he looks for the appropriate entry point to share his thoughts, wondering, and perspective. He is very ‘real’, transparent, and relatable. He is thoughtful and mindful in his questions... and, leaves space for you to ‘get there’ on your own. I don’t feel like he is rushing to ‘fix me’ or pushing solutions that I am not comfortable with. Quite the opposite. Although I may not always feel ‘better’ right after a session...I feel seen, heard, and understood. And, for me, as I am weathering this storm is a pretty great place to be.
