I have been a mental health counselor for almost 30 years, in Cuba, my country and in the USA. As a psychiatrist, I specialized in medication management, and individual, group, family and couples counseling. I've published articles and books on family and couples therapy. I have been working in a crisis intervention service for several years. After that, I worked at a community mental health service.
My therapeutic style is eclectic. I use various techniques that fit with the case and the current problem. I often practice cognitive behavioral, narrative, conflict resolution and client-center techniques. To treat families and couples I usually proceed with the systemic-constructivist model. For individual cases and couples and families I establish the necessary rapport. In a few sessions, customers often make great progress. Empathy, unconditional acceptance and humor are important issues in my work.
Having studied and worked counseling in various cultural environments allows me to better understand the dynamics of customers.
After I approved credentials in the USA, I have worked in individual counseling with children and adults for over 12 years. I have been professor of clinical psychology in Cuba and in USA. I currently deliver a behavioral analysis as lead analyst for children and young people with autism and other disabling mental conditions.
My work with a teenager necessarily includes the family. In this way, in reality the service offered is from a family counseling, although the interview and work with the young person may be individual at some point.

Francisco Almagro is very professional. He is great at letting me explain my feelings. He has giving me tasks to complete before next session. He is a very understanding person.
Francisco is very knowledgeable. He's funny and blunt in a good way. I have great respect for his style and he is fair in his approach to couples.
Francisco listens and interacts wonderfully. I would highly recommend him.
From the 1st session, i felt she really got me. Instead of invalidating or alienating me for my weird feelings, he reassured me that what i was feeling was human and a natural reaction. Such non judgemental approach from him allowed me to open up with him. I am still in touch with him since he is an amazing in what he does. I strongly recommend him to anyone seeking quality therapy.
