About me

Thank you for taking such good care of yourself or your teen by seeking help. It can be so hard to do that and even more, it can be scary. Getting help may seem easy, but it can be hard, confusing and seem impossible. I am here to make this process a little easier for you and your child. I have been in private practice for 14 years and during this time, I have focused on children and adolescent issues, in particular: self injury, complex post traumatic stress disorder, childhood sexual abuse, sexual assault, partner violence/domestic violence, relationship issues, issues with parent and/or sibling relationship(s), cyber bullying, and transitioning into college.

I am skilled in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Therapy and have received extensive training in trauma therapy. I am most passionate about working with teens and find my work with teenagers quite fulfilling and rewarding. My feedback from teens and their families has been positive. I do not work with teenagers independent of their parent(s). I find that when I include the parent(s) and/or caregivers and siblings (f there are other siblings) treatment outcomes are generally far more favorable than when I work with teenagers at the exclusion of their families. I do value my relationship with teens and their loved ones and will focus my time working primarily with the teenager, where I will keep strict rules around confidentiality. If there is an issue I believe a parent or caregiver needs to know, I will work with my teen to help identify ways they can talk to their parent about what the problem is, in a safe and healthy way.

I have gotten a lot out of our sessions. I'm learning how to think about situations in a way that lets me learn, grow, and be productive in dealing with challenges. Hugely helpful.

Abbie listens with compassion. She makes me feel comfortable to speak freely. Her input and response indicate her knowledge and respect for what she does! I would recommend Abbie to my best friends.

Abbie was my first therapist I have ever had, and she did a great job at facilitating a good first impression. In many ways she felt like a good friend, and was always kind, respectful, and insightful. The way she framed questions in and of itself helped me reframe the way I looked at my struggles in order to begin overcoming them. Thank you Abbie!

Abbie (Erika Luhn) is very perceptive and does not need a lot of information to understand how to help.

Erika/Abbie has been so supportive and lovely to have as my therapist. I looked forward to my sessions with her as I felt after every session I was given more insights to my issues and in turn given the constructive thinking to help aid them. I've become a lot more aware and emotionally conscious as opposed to very emotionally turbulent. This has reflected very positively in my relationships and general outlook to life. Abbie has been wonderful, I would recommend her to absolutely anyone, especially those who've never tried therapy before she very much held my hand through everything. This was the best first experience I could have had to therapy.

My sessions with Erika were insightful, positive, and intentional. She has helped me work through some conflicts and get to the root of my problems. I feel like she cares. Her goal was for me to be emotionally healthy, helping me to understand why I felt as I did and additionally giving me the tools to maintain. I appreciate her time and work.

Therapy is wonderful and tricky. Finding a good fir with a therapist is a lot like buying shoes. They may look great and might seem to go well with your plan, but they may pinch your toes or squeeze your sole. I think teencounseling.com takes the paring of their therapist and clients seriously and have taken great measure to ensure the best fit is made. The third party check in is a great way to create a safe environment for the client to express any concerns they may have re: their therapist as well as overall delivery of services.
I've been changing gears on Erika since we began and she has supported my process. She both keeps me focused while I navigate between what I believe or perceive are the problems and allows me to shift my focus as I dig at the root of the real issues at hand.

Work with me!
