Welcome to Betterhelp! My name is Donna Reed. I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with 12+ years of experience in providing high quality care to individuals who are socially excluded or who are experiencing problems in their lives. I am highly trained at performing initial assessments, client-centered counseling, and assessing needs. I am certified in Evidence Based Programs such as Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavior Therapy (TF-CBT), Managing and Adapting Practice (MAP), and Seeking Safety Treatment Model. I graduated from University of Memphis with my B.S. degree in Criminal Justice and a minor in Sociology. I later graduated from Argosy University-Atlanta with M.A. degree in Community Counseling and a Post Graduate Certificate in Marriage and Family Therapy.
I utilize Client Centered approach with empathetic listening and creating an atmosphere in which my clients feel safe to express their feelings with certainty and that they are being understood rather than judged. My approach to therapy is simple, teaching individuals to be kind to self. When we feel good about who we are, we often make better choices. Life can be challenging sometimes and in those difficult moments it is common to feel lonely and isolated. But I got good news. Therapy is an opportunity to look at one’s life and understand how you became the person you are today. I often like to use a “timeline” with my clients to help them look back as far as they can remember and bring them into the “now,” to give them insight in how they became who they are today. I want you to know therapy is an opportunity to get to know you – your limitations, needs, wants, desires, strengths, weaknesses, beliefs, values. And once you are able to see the parts of you that make up you, you can then begin to love all of you. Such insight will no doubt help you see that there is more good than bad. In California, my largest population were at-risk youth, foster care children, and their families. I learned young people are resilient. We just have to remind them of that.
As a therapist, it will be your agenda. You will guide this process. Therapy can help you process your thoughts, feelings, and goals in a safe environment. As a therapist, I will ask thought-provoking questions, to sit with you in your darkest moments, and to support you through overwhelming challenges. My ultimate goal is to help individuals move forward toward a more productive life. I’m so glad you have given us an opportunity to help you feel better. I look forward to working with you.
