Hello! My name is Diane Cleary. (pronouns she/her)
Thank you for reaching out! I know how difficult it can be to ask for help for yourself or your child. You may be filled with feelings of guilt and hopelessness. I promise you, it will not always feel this way and things can and will get better with the right interventions and treatment. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 27 years of experience providing prevention, psychoeducation, and individual and group therapy to young people and their families. I am passionate about helping those in need. I can offer a supportive and nurturing environment enabling clients to work through their challenges. I respect your courage for making the choice to work with Better Help at this time.
The first 7 years of my career I worked with adolescents who were in the foster care system and resided in group homes. They had tremendous issues that they faced such as abuse and neglect, abandonment, loss, issues with substance abuse, depression and anxiety, and a variety of traumas. There, I learned how important a trusting therapeutic relationship can be. Providing a safe and trusting space for teens to express themselves without fear of judgment is paramount to the therapeutic process. I still hear from these former clients from time to time who are now in their 30’s. It fills me with great pride and joy as they thank me for being there for them at such a crucial time in their lives.
For the past 20 years, I have been a School Social Worker. I have worked with children at the elementary school level, but most of my years have been spent working with teens and their families providing prevention, education, crisis intervention, parenting support, and individual and group therapy. Being a teen today is no easy task! They are up against so many challenges and obstacles. In addition to the struggles common to this stage of life (biological, hormonal, mental, social and emotional) they have to try and figure out how to be an adult in a world that sometimes has not allowed them to be a child, having to follow rules, engage in relationships, battle against bullying, figuring out who they are and what their values are, and navigating life on social media and all of the potential problems that can come from there...the list goes on. Add to this the global pandemic and civil unrest and It is no wonder that anxiety and depression is at an all-time high!
Young people can benefit greatly from having a regular source of support from someone who is not also their parent, friend or significant other. I enjoy playing that role for young people and enjoy seeing them develop their wisdom and coping skills that they will use for the rest of their lives.
I genuinely enjoy working with young people, and I strongly believe that addressing mental health and emotional struggles, while building these skills and the ability to recognize and regulate feelings at this point in life will pay off in a great way now and in their future adult lives.
I love to be creative and offer a variety of therapeutic activities and games in my work with young people. I find that this increases engagement with the youngster and provides a variety of ways to relieve stress and anxiety. In addition, this offers another way of communication and relationship building with those youngsters who are not particularly verbal.
I have an eclectic approach to therapy and am a DBT informed therapist and a Trauma-informed therapist. I have also taken many courses on play therapy, art therapy and continue to attend continuing education workshops as often as I can to keep up to date on the latest treatment modalities. I incorporate mindfulness into my practice including strategies from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, DBT, Client-Centered Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy, and family systems theory, I have experience in a wide variety of areas but have most often work with trauma, crisis and self-harm issues, social skill issues, parenting issues, depression and anxiety, and substance use, I have also worked with issues of sexuality.
I honor my relationships with my clients and strive to provide a safe therapeutic environment. If you (or your child) decide to work with me, we will fully discuss the issue of confidentiality since I understand how important privacy issues are. If you feel that I may be a good fit for you or for a young person in your life, please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions.

She’s been great so far!
I have had very negative experiences with talk therapy before finding Diane. She has completely transformed my understanding of what talk therapy can be, initiating a trajectory for healing that has saved my life. Diane also shares documents, links, and other resources with me weekly which has made the entirety of my experience cohesive and sustainable. Couldn't recommend her enough!
My daughter has had several therapists over the past two years and Diane is her favorite. Finding a counselor that’s a good match is a blessing.
Diane is a wonderful soul who actively listens to my concerns and helps me figure out ways of healing and growing as a person. She is kind and supportive and very knowledgeable but also knows when to step back and recommend outside assistance. A wonderful counselor.
Diane is phenomenal. She is very engaging and understanding and relates so well. I am beyond grateful to have been matched with her.
She has help me tremendously. Each session I’ve had with Diane I have walked away feeling like I’ve made progress. She has gone above and beyond sending me helpful information and practices to keep up with after sessions. I feel heard and listened to and I respect and value her thoughts.
Mrs. Cleary is amazing! She’s very helpful, patient and extremely kind. She makes me feel very understood and welcomed
Diane is very empathetic, understands my issues very well, gives good advice, remembers everything I tell her and is genuinely invested in my well being.
