About me

Congratulations on taking the first step toward healing. Asking for help is hard and one of the most difficult things is to find a therapist who you feel "gets" you, that you feel you can build a strong supportive connection with. I am a licensed Marriage & Family Therapist in California and have been in practice since July 2015. I have experience working with children, adolescents and adults, those suffering from trauma, rape, sexual assault, grief and loss, and those struggling with school issues (academic under achievement, bullying, emotional disturbance).
I have worked with victims of rape, sexual assault & domestic violence from children as young as five to adults. I have worked as a mental health therapist at schools for students with emotional disturbance, grief issues and trauma from kindergarten-12th grade since February 2013. My therapeutic orientation is varied and draws from several different types of therapy: Client-Centered, Solution-Focused, Cognitive Behavioral, Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral and Psycho-dynamic Therapies.
I take an honest, respectful, sensitive approach to therapy & acknowledge the client and their circumstances as unique and firstly assist the client in the development of coping skills. As therapy progresses more of the client's past will be explored to help the client work through previously unprocessed issues.

Reviews

These quotes represent just a few of the many positive reviews that we have received for David Rubin. We don't pay anyone to provide their review and they are all made voluntarily. Some people's experience receiving therapy with Teen Counseling might be different.

Written on Jan 26, 2023 after therapy with David for 2 years and 11 months on issues concerning depression, stress, anxiety, relationship issues, family conflicts, self esteem, and coping with life changes

After over a decade of regular in-person therapy with various providers, it wasn't until working with David Rubin via teencounseling.com that I finally got an appropriate diagnosis for my mental health. Through phone sessions (!) he skillfully identified patterns in my moods and behaviors that my psychiatrist eventually affirmed as an episode. David helped me navigate this in addition to my day-to-day struggles during the height of the Covid pandemic, all with a balanced mix of humor, empathy, and professionalism. He has given me essential tools to manage my mental health for the rest of my life.

Dave is great! What I appreciate about him the most is the applicable advice he has given me during our sessions. He is an active listener, compassionate but also not afraid to steer you in the right direction. I have found him to be very helpful.

Work with me!
