About me
I have been in the mental health field for over 10 years and have learned that the best therapeutic work is done when you feel safe, comfortable, supported, and accepted. Therapeutic trust in the person you are sharing your entire self with can take time and that’s perfectly ok. My philosophy as a therapist is that it is never about me, it’s about you...you get to choose how much you share and you get to set the pace. I will be present with you as you learn to trust the process. Each client is unique and presents with his or her own counseling needs and concerns. For this reason, there is no one approach that may work best for everyone. With this principle in mind, I utilize integrative models involving insight oriented, cognitive-behavioral, developmental, solution-focused, and mind-body-spirit models and employ an eclectic counseling approach. Theoretically, I rely heavily on Rogerian person-centered, cognitive-behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, reality therapy, and behavioral counseling approaches. These are well established, researched and respected therapies. I am currently working as a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Supervisor, Licensed Clinical Addictions Specialist, Certified Clinical Supervisor, Certified Sex Offender Treatment Specialist, and Certified Criminal Profiler. I have a M.S. in Rehabilitation Counseling and Career Counseling (2012), a M.S. in Clinical Counseling and Substance Abuse (2012), and a Master’s level Certificate in Vocational Evaluation (2012) all from East Carolina University. I have a post-master’s certifications as a Certified Sex Offender Treatment Specialist and Certified Criminal Profiler, both issued by the National Association of Forensic Counselors and lastly, Master Addiction Counselor certification issued by the National Certification Commission for Addiction Professionals. I also have a B.A. in Psychology (1999) from East Carolina University. I have attended multiple specialized trainings, workshops, and conferences in a variety of both mental health and substance abuse areas in an effort to continue my education, increase my clinical skills, and maintain my professional license and certifications.
