About me
I have been working in the mental health for approximately 10 years. I started this journey working in an inpatient facility as a mental health worker on the adolescent wing. Working as a mental health worker has helped me gain the knowledge to relate to clients (adolescents and children) on a different level. Being able to understand and be on their level is helpful. Working with adolescents and children is different than working with adults. Each therapist has a general approach they utilize for counseling, however, therapists working with adolescents and children have to be flexible because what may have worked for this client may not work with this other client. I feel very strongly that working with adolescents and children is rewarding and after working with them you have the opportunity to feel like you have made a difference.
I have been an independently licensed professional counselor since 2012. As an independently licensed professional counselor I offer support services to empower each person and/or family to fully function in society by assisting all people to reach their potential through a life-long learning process. The nature of my work permits me to perform a variety of care services including but not limited to: individual therapy, family therapies, couples therapy, long-term counseling services, crisis and short-term brief therapy, consultation, coaching and training. I use problem solving, goal-directed strategies to help persons resolve challenges in their lives. I also draw evidence based practices that are founded in the following (but not limited to) theories: Cognitive Behavioral Theory, Dialectical Behavioral Theory, and solution-focused therapy. I am also trained as a mental health first aid trainer and verbal de-escalation trainer.
I graduated from the University of Wyoming in 2005 with a B.A. in psychology. I completed my M.S. in mental health counseling from Walden University in 2010 and I am pursuing a PhD in Healthcare Administration.
