About Me
Hi. My name is Cathy. I'm a Licensed Professional Counselor in Pennsylvania and have been working with kids, teens, and families for over 30 years. I've worked in schools, hospitals, institutions and in people's homes, so I'm able to see things from a lot of different perspectives. I'm a parent myself and that has taught me a lot, but I'm also thankful for what I've learned from all the kids I've worked with over the years, and it seems like life for kids these days is more complicated than ever. After all these years I still can't promise that "I've seen it all" (I used to say that, but then something new comes up!), but I can promise that no matter what is happening I will listen without judgement, and do everything I can to help you work through it.
My experience includes work with depression, anxiety, panic attacks, grief, trauma, abuse, addiction, and many other emotional concerns. I use a variety of methods, including cognitive-behavioral therapy, reality therapy, structural family therapy, and various trauma-informed approaches. I also have a seminary education for those who seek a faith-based approach, but I also believe that if you've been raised in a religious family, it's important to be allowed to ask questions, express doubts, and examine your beliefs so that your faith can become your own.
I believe it's important to be real, to meet you where you are, and work together to find the solutions that work best. Most of all, I believe that everyone deserves to be heard with compassion and respect before I can earn the right offer advice, challenge your thinking, or confront you with an uncomfortable truth.
One of things I love about Betterhelp is that I have the opportunity to work with people from all over the world, and am reminded daily that the things we have in common are far greater than anything that may separate us. So no matter what your background, I am honored to have the privilege of getting to know you, and doing everything I can to help.
Looking forward to hearing from you,
Cathy
My name is Cathy and I'm a Licensed Professional Counselor in Pennsylvania with over 30 years experience in the mental health field. I've worked with individuals, couples, children and families of diverse backgrounds in many different setting with a lot of different issues. Specialties include work with depression, anxiety, trauma, abuse, and family issues. I've also worked with addictions, sex offenders, kids of all ages, employee assistance, and just about anything else you can imagine... or so it seems. After all these years I 'm tempted to say I've "heard it all"... until something new proves me wrong!
What I can say is I that I'll try to offer a realistic perspective to almost any problem, whether it's a parenting, relationship, or family issue, or if you need help overcoming your fear, anxiety, anger, hurts, or just plain crazy-off-the-wall-stressful lifestyle. I draw upon many schools of thought, including cognitive-behavioral therapy, reality therapy, structural family therapy, and various trauma-informed approaches. For those who request Christian Counseling, I also have a seminary education and can provide Biblical insights into all of the above, but also acknowledge that the church itself is made up of imperfect people and sometimes brings wounds of its own.
One of things I love about Betterhelp is that I have the opportunity to work with people from all over the world, and am reminded daily that the things we have in common are far greater than anything that may separate us. So no matter what your background, I am honored to have the privilege of getting to know you, and will do everything I can to help.
Hope to hear from you soon,
Cathy

Reviews
These quotes represent just a few of the many positive reviews that we have received for Catherine Misciagna. We don’t pay anyone to provide their review and they are all made voluntarily. Some people's experience receiving therapy with Teen Counseling might be different.
Good listener
Good interventions
calming and great listener
Catherine has been an amazing therapist & has helped me significantly in various capacities depending on what I needed at the time. If I just need her to listen as I ramble about my problems & tell me if I'm valid in my way of thinking or not she listens. If I need more than that she helps me to problem solve and offers techniques that can help me to cope or move forward from what I've experienced. She's experienced with a wide variety of issues & uses her experience to offer the best treatment she can. She's kind, understanding & also firm in correcting thoughts and behaviors when she needs to be without being overbearing or judgemental. Talking to her is easy, like talking to a friend but still professional & helpful enough that it's clear she's an expert in what she does & boundaries are never crossed. Catherine truly provides the ideal therapy experience & I would 100% recommend her to others. I've been through a lot of therapy and a lot of therapists and it's rare to find one as good as she is at what she does.
Catherine has been wonderful
Cathy is a very good listener with no judgement against my behaviors and decisions, which is a big positive to me. She helps me to access to necessary resources, also confirms to me many things which seem like a myth about mental illness. I love how encouraging every time talking to her. Thank you very much Cathy :)
Cathy has a way of making you feel heard and seen from the moment you start to engage. She knows when to bring up something light hearted and when to make you think. She's amazing
She's wonderful
Great therapist, knows her stuff!
Cathy is the bees knees!! She offers constructive criticism & challenges me. She’s just the best!!
Dr. Misciagna is providing counseling for my son and the feedback has been great. We had to find a new counselor for him and he was a bit worried at first, but felt relieved after speaking with Catherine on their first session together. Catherine is very thoughtful, patient, knowledgeable, professional, compassionate and overall great to work with. As the parent of her patient, I have the opportunity to communicate with her directly and she has been very responsive and understanding. She demonstrates the willingness to go above and beyond to help her patients, I am very happy that my son has Catherine as his therapist.
Cathy is a great therapist! She made me feel comfortable right away and she is easy to talk to. She has shared some different ideas that are outside of the box compared to therapy that I’ve done in the past and has helped me with resolving and addressing issues I’ve brought to her. I would without hesitation recommend her. 10/10!
Highly recommended. I feel I have known her for long time
Cathy is a great therapist and I feel very safe talking to her. I really appreciate her time and help.
Cathy is a great listener. Really appreciate her advice.
This is our second time trying couples therapy after a traumatic first experience with a terrible therapist. Catherine has exceeded our expectations, and we are so excited to keep working with her!
This is the first therapist i've had that truly understands me. Dr. Misciagna is skilled in her field and by far the best therapist i've ever met with. I appreciate all of her help and hard work she has put into helping me become a better me.
Cathy is extremely caring and is amazing at listening. Her experience is very evident and I couldn’t be happier to have been matched with her.
Catherine has been wonderful since we started talking three weeks ago. I feel very comfortable being open with her and never feel judgement, rather she gives me clarity on how I’m feeling and my thoughts on my past actions. It’s really nice talking to someone who carries a conversation so well, it feels very natural and healing. I’d recommend Catherine to anyone!
Catherine's help and guidance has been very helpful to me.
Thank you and thank Catherine!
Catherine has been a life saver! She understands both me and my partner. She is compassionate and keeps things light and humorous. I can say with confidence that Catherine has saved our relationship. Thank you so much !!!!!
I have only had 2 sessions with Cathy, however she is very professional and a great listener. I look forward to continuing my therapy with Cathy as I feel we mesh well.
With Cathy, I feel heard and understood, and I appreciate her ability to switch from the purely practical to realities beyond language. I recommend her without reservation.
She has really helped us so far.
Kathy has been a fantastic counselor. She listens to us and respects us. The guidance that she has provided has really helped us rebuild our marriage. We are very grateful to have her as our counselor
Very caring and understanding
Catherine is terrific, very understanding of my crazy life and her advice with my family situation was truly helpful.
I'm grateful to Cathy for her kindness, empathy, patience and humour in our sessions. I feel like I can tell her anything and she'll help me move forward. Since we've started talking, I feel so much better, freer and looser in myself than I've been for a long time.
Catherine is a great listener and very understanding. I love that she has a great understanding of the spiritual, biblical but also the psychological sides of things.
Great therapist!!
I absolutely love Catherine! Her advice and wisdom has helped me strive professionally and with my relationships with my family and friends.
Catherine was fantastic to work with. She was able to very quickly learn about me, my goals, the context around what brought me on to teencounseling.com, and ultimately sift through our conversations to support me. This translated into helpful analysis (oftentimes via a scientific description that was extremely helpful and delivered in a digestible way), questions that made me dive deeper into my own self-awareness, and ultimately into the creation of habits that worked for my own unique needs. Her support felt customized and not generic and has really changed the way I practice habits to support in cultivating my mental health. I highly recommend working with her!
Catherine has helped me so much with detangling my thoughts and helping me get through my anxieties. I highly reccomend her (: she's so sweet and it's really comforting to talk to her!
She’s helped me tremendously. I am super grateful for her time and compassionate approach.
Never having a therapist, I was not sure what to expect out of sessions. Catherine has made the process very smooth. I appreciate her attentiveness to and care for what I am going through. In just a couple of sessions, I am seeing a light that I have been hoping to find. She presents clear and manageable exercises that we work on together and I on my own. It is evident that she is educated and well-practiced in counseling.
As a wife and new mom, our family is facing some obstacles in life that I want/need guidance through. Together, teencounseling.com and Catherine accommodate my specific needs to times that work with my lifestyle. This is my first time seeking therapy and was excited but worried I would be more so venting rather than being guided.. not the case at all. I’m enjoying my “me time”.
She is highly understanding
She is a great listener, very understanding and always helpful.
I’ve been in and out of therapy for the past 24 years and have dealt with a plethora of therapists, some helpful and some not so much. My experience with Catherine has been incredibly helpful to the point where it is visible to the people around me that things in my therapy journey are going well. She has helped me with the more practical side of navigating options I need outside of just teen counseling when it comes to my mental health and has been eye opening to issues I was unaware I was even having that were really causing a lot of blocks in my life. She is open, understanding, while also letting me feel heard and valued. I can’t express how much that alone has helped me get through my weeks. I wanted to make sure I didn’t write a review too soon but after a even just a couple of months I absolutely recommend her.
My counselor listens to me so well. She prays about what wisdom to share with me and validated my emotions while at the same time challenges me to move past them! I would recommend her to anyone!
Cathy is great, very patient as she listens to us go on and on, but very insightful and willing to help us traverse our counselling together.
Within two sessions with Catherine, we felt comfortable enough to move from our initial issue to specific individual issues. Her expertise comes from a significant amount of prior experience in many fields. She's not only knowledgeable; she's also non-judgmental, kind, and understanding. I cannot wait to have more sessions with her!
Catherine is everything I didn't know I needed or wanted in a counselor. Some people have to keep searching for someone who meets their needs, but I was perfectly matched and am very grateful.
She is wonderful ❣️
I feel like Catherine is the first help I've ever been able to be honest with or say something to in minimal form and she completely was able to make sense of how and why I felt a certain way within seconds. I've been through therapy in the military before but I've never felt I was really being helped. Catherine has revived my wife and I both personally and in our marriage in a short amount of time and I look forward our next session as we feel like we're being renewed or rebuilt in a reflective healthy manner with professional guidance.
Cathy made me feel comfortable and at ease. She was insightful as to the core issues and able to help me understand how to approach a difficult situation in a way that provided a mindset shift and the change I craved.
We are very grateful for her!! Thank you!!
Catherine is absolutely wonderful. She is a true professional who is honestly dedicated to us (clients). After counseling sessions with Catherine I literally feel like I have just taken a breath of fresh air. Thank you for everything that you do Catherine. You are absolutely wonderful
So far I have only had 1 session with Catherine Misciagna but a few random chats, I do plan to have many more. She is very attentive and understanding. She offered me wise advice and helped me understand myself a little more. I am very appreciative of her time and expertise!
Catherine has helped me to start taking control of my life and helping me realize that I am stronger than others have thought of me. I am stronger than my scars, my trauma, my abuse, my abusers. I am more powerful than the hands that used to hold me down. She has started working with me to help me rise above being a victim and to walk confidently as a survivor.
Catherine is very clear and patient at the same time. She helped me to go through difficult periods in my relationships and supported me. She was flexible in time-arrangements and showed a lot of compassion
She's awesome!
Catherine is very insightful. She has helped me tremendously.
Cathy is direct, real, approachable, a good listener and practical. She meets you “where you are,” and offers suggestions for moving forward. I’d recommend her to anyone looking for a thoughtful counselor.
Catherine is very kind, professional and caring. She asks many questions and is very compassionate, patient and understanding towards your answers.
I trust her completely with my feelings and thoughts and feel very grateful to have such a great counsellor.
I feel supported, not judged and more confident to take on life's struggle.
Catherine is very compassionate, understanding and professional.
After several months of text-counseling at my pace which suits my life and allows me to jot down and send the most poignant thoughts and descriptions of feelings WHEN I can describe them (rather than waiting on a scheduled appointment), I'm in love with this form of counseling. I believe I've made MUCH more progress this way than I ever did in traditional office/appointment/ time - limited counseling. I think it allows my counselor to offer better responses too because she can do it when she knows she has time to concentrate.
I have a masters in counseling, and I'm huge on reading body language and facial expressions, so for me to praise this aspect of the counseling as such a big benefit is a big deal (I think, ha ha).
Very good responses, she asks a lot of questions so she can really understand and help me.
I've only just started with Catherine but so far it has been amazing. The format of messaging is perfect for me. I find it is so much easier to open up and a sincere desire from Catherine to help me do that.
I was asking for understanding and to be heard rather than told. Cathy has been an amazing example of knowledge with integrity and most certainly has helped me see myself more clearly for who I am, rather than for who I thought I was.
Starting out, I wasn't too sure therapy was the right choice to help me. But from the first message, Catherine has proved to be of more help than I could ever imagine. She takes the time to work through all of my problems with me instead of focusing on just one. She is very encouraging and patient when it comes to what I feel I need or understand. Overall she is one of the most helpful people I have ever met and I would gladly recommend her to anyone seeking help.
Cathy is a wonderful counselor and has a great way to getting to the root of the matter!
Best counselor I know -- thank you!
Wonderful!!!
Thank you so much, you the best.
Cathy is a wonderful, caring and empathetic person who has really helped me work through various issues. She is very knowledgeable and understanding and is quick to respond. Her help has been invaluable and has helped to alleviate my anxiety and stress on a range of topics such as relationships, family dynamics and coping with someone who is abusing drugs. Thank you very much Cathy for always being such a great listener, asking thought provoking questions and being an outlet of support for me.
She is helpful. Non-judgemental, and encouraging.
