About me

Hello! I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Georgia. I have been working in mental health for approximately 6 years, mostly with adults who are coping with symptoms of mental illness or substance use issues. I have also worked with children and teenagers, those deemed incompetent to stand trial, and those with developmental disabilities. During my time working with children and teenagers, we focused on self-esteem, anger management, depression, anxiety, self-harming behaviors, and adjusting to new situations like school and home life. At this time, I facilitate Symptom Management and Substance Use groups at my full time job along with providing individual counseling to address issues like anxiety, depression, self-esteem, and conflicts with others. I have also led Dialectical Behavioral Groups along with Anger Management and Social Skills groups.

My counseling approach is very person-centered and recovery oriented. This means that each session is centered around you, the individual, and is focused on your overall well-being. I prefer a strengths based perspective where we can focus on your strengths, what you do well, and what makes you happy. Using Cognitive Behavior Therapy, with some Solution Focused and Dialectical Behavior Therapy skills and theories, we can work together to meet your goals. Helping others be the best person they can be is my passion!

I received my Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and after a few years of working, decided I wanted to go back to school to further my education and work one on one with people in the community. I obtained my Master of Education degree with a focus on Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I have worked in an outpatient community mental health setting, inpatient psychiatric hospital, and in an inpatient addictions program. I take a personal interest in everyone's story and am always willing to listen to when things aren't going well...and even when they are. Being a "ray of sunshine" (as described by previous patients) in someone's cloudy day is my daily personal goal.

I know it takes a lot of courage to engage in therapy and open up to someone that may be a stranger, but I hope that you can find some comfort in knowing that confidentiality is my number one priority. I care about all of my clients and want to work with each and every one to meet their needs and goals. I know with addiction issues, it can be tough to open up about relapse for fear of judgment by others. Things happen...we sometimes stumble...but we always know and recognize our path, making it easy to start our journey again.

Reach out and say hello....I look forward to working with you!

Bethany has been very supportive in a very trying time.

Because teencounseling.com asks what you’re looking for in a counselor, I was placed with someone who really works for me: Bethany is very good at pushing back against some of the things I say and think while remaining incredibly supportive. I would recommend her to anyone without reservation (especially if you’re someone who needs a little push now and then).
