About me

Hello, my name is Austa Murray and I'm a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 22 years of experience bringing knowledge from working directly with teens and parents in various settings. In my work with adolescents and their parents, I have worked to improve relationships, communication, resilience and coping. My work has included individual therapy, group therapy and family therapy specifically with teens. My intention is to move at a pace comfortable to you, your teen and to build a connection, so that you can both receive the support you're seeking. I have worked with a diverse group of clients who've faced a variety of concerns, including depression, anxiety, stress, school and behavioral difficulties, difficulties with friends, and parenting issues. I have advanced training in working through an attachment and trauma based lens, as well as developmental expertise.

My style is compassionate, non-judgmental, educational and insight based. I see my role as providing you with my experience and knowledge in a supportive manner to help you navigate the challenges that led you to seek support. This often involves addressing your presenting concerns with a combination of understanding, listening, skill development, and psychological concepts based on establishing insight. My approach is strengths-based, trauma and developmentally informed, combining cognitive behavioral and solution-focused styles. For teens who are struggling, and the parents who are trying to support them, a focus of our work together would be on establishing the ability to better identify and appropriately communicate feelings. Together, we will create a plan to meet your needs. I look forward to working with you.

Austa is the best. She’s knowledgeable, understanding, encouraging, supportive - but can also challenge you and hold you accountable when appropriate. Austa has helped me find my confidence again. She has also facilitated drastic improvements in my partner and I’s communication skills. My partner and I agree that Austa was instrumental in saving our relationship after significant trauma and concerns surrounding infidelity. I highly recommend Austa and her expertise.

Each therapy sessions made me feel like I could breathe again, especially when there was a major issue or crisis taking place in my life or the life of my loved ones. I originally thought I was going to therapy for a certain set of issues but found that my world was opened wider, broader, into places that had me examining the quality of all my connections and how I viewed myself. My life feels richer and generative because of the work we are doing. That is all thanks to Austa. I am ever grateful to teencounseling.com for connecting me to her and her life-changing work. I feel as though I will live longer as a direct result of the care I received.

Austa has genuinely been the best therapist I could have ever asked for. I have had a very tough life that has left me with a lot of trauma. She has helped me in so many unique ways to pick up the pieces and make myself whole again. I am finally starting to learn who I am meant to be. I am very blessed to have such a supportive therapist, and I am fully happy with every aspect of this app.

Austa is a great person to work with. She never makes you feel judged, and you feel free to open up to her. She is always flexible with scheduling and wants to be there for you. Could not be happier with my experience with her.

I’ve been working with Austa for just a short time now, but it feels like forever. I love her input and reassurance. I’m so glad I joined teen counseling and even more glad I have the pleasure to work with someone like Austa.

Austa is excellent at listening to both sides and helping build understanding. She identifies miscommunications and provides suggestions on how to communicate more effectively. She reaches out often to check in on us between sessions and makes time for us. She is very understanding and I really enjoy working with her.

The thing that strikes me about Austa Murray is her empathy and understanding. This is my first time doing something like this, so I expected something where I was being analyzed for lies and omissions, for anxieties and defense mechanisms. I was expecting to have my judgement of past events questioned, something I admittedly am frequently guilty of doing to myself. And while Austa asks questions and tries to find new ways of looking at things, I never feel like an ant under a microscope. Instead, I feel like she is in the trenches right beside me, when bombs from my past are exploding overhead. And through it all, she is making gentle suggestions that are legitimately helpful. I cannot recommend Austa enough.
