About me
“I talk with the authority of failure.” - F Scott Fitzgerald.
Having gone over a decade now of working with teens and their parents, there is only one thing I can guarantee: it is not a pretty time for anyone involved.
My style combines structure with empathy and humor. It is such a chaotic period for both parents and teens, the structure is intended to make goals and agreements which keep everyone safe, while keeping track of progress. My use of humor is to embrace the imperfections in all of us - me included - and to model to our teens that part of becoming an adult is not knowing all the answers and that is ok.
I specialize in working with teens whose behaviors have put them at risk, sometimes even incarcerated. I use a client-centered, solution-focused approach in helping teens find solutions to resolving issues which impact their day to day lives. Other conditions I have treated are symptoms and stressors related to trauma, self-harm, relationships, sexuality, gender identity, stress, anxiety, and depression.
Since treatment is online, I cannot stress enough the importance of having parents involved. Treatment can be ten times more effective if I can get additional information and perspectives from those the teen is around daily - and one cannot discount the therapeutic impact of having supportive loved ones.
If this feels like a good fit for you, please reach out. I look forward to working with all of you!

Reviews
These quotes represent just a few of the many positive reviews that we have received for Amber Russell. We don't pay anyone to provide their review and they are all made voluntarily. Some people's experience receiving therapy with Teen Counseling might be different.
Amber is the best therapist I have ever had. Hands down. She listens, she adds new information, and she helps me figure things out that I think about until our next talk.
Amber is always considerate and compassionate. She's very knowledgeable and many areas and across many fields of knowledge. She offers great suggestions, is flexible and pivots based on feedback. She has great communication skills and it's very intuitive.
Amber is an amazing person. I was not sure about therapy before meeting her, but my whole life has turned a 180 in just a few short weeks. She’s professional and always responds to my questions or concerns in a timely manner. I would not be where I am today (happy and healthy) if not for taking the leap into therapy and meeting Amber. Thank you so much!
Amber is so wise and authentic, she totally gets me!
Amber is a gem, we are so lucky to have found her. She really listens and strikes that fine balance between guiding the conversation and intuiting important aspects that are worth investigating. You will feel at ease and supported in her capable hands.
