Hi, I am Amber Rowe Mikus, I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialist. I received both of my degrees from East Carolina University in Greenville, NC. I have over 9 years of clinical experience, however I have worked in the mental health/substance abuse field for 14 years. I graduated with my Bachelor of Psychology with a Minor in Child Development and Family Relationships in 2005. I worked in the field for three years in the school setting with behaviorally challenged children and adolescents, as well as in a day treatment setting for children and teens that were expelled from the public school setting and/or had behaviors too extensive for a regular classroom setting. I went on to complete my graduate degree at East Carolina University. I graduated in 2010 with my Master's in Social Work. I have spent much of my clinical years working with children in their home, doing intensive therapy with them, as well as their parents and/or caregivers. I also spent much of my time working with dually diagnosed adults, a day treatment facility with behaviorally challenged children and teens as a lead therapist, and most recently in a substance abuse treatment program. I currently work full time with adults in recovery or striving toward recovery from opiates and other substances.
I have an eclectic approach to therapy. Much of my technique is person centered, I use motivational interviewing, as well as cognitive behavioral therapy. I find solution focused therapy to be very helpful, and reality therapy appropriate a lot of times.
My passion is people. People of all walks of life, with different backgrounds and different journeys. I strive to work with my clients to help them uncover their best self. The most important part is to remember that this is your therapy, you are the captain, you hold the compass, and the journey is up to you. I am just a co-pilot!

Amber is very helpful. I have a lot of anxiety. I find that I need to vent. I don’t want to burden friends or family with things that seem trivial to them, but are crippling me. Amber is very patient. She provides good feedback, and suggestions for improvement.
Very great & professional.
She’s one of the best therapist I’ve worked with and truly makes me feel heard and understood.
Amber has been incredible so far. Really been there when I’ve needed her, SO responsive and a pleasure to work with. I really got lucky with her.
Amber is taking care to keep my daughters comfort level in mind. I am excited to see what progress we can make over the course of time.
She’s doing awesome!
Amber has been great at rolling with the punches with me. As anxiety hits at inopportune times, it has been important to have her as an ally in dealing with it properly which is hard to do on a strict schedule. She pays attention to all the complex details of my issues I’m working through and responds productively and thoughtfully. She is truly a team player who is there to help.
