Hello, my name is Amber Bathon. I am a licensed professional clinical counselor (state of KY), a licensed professional counselor (state of OR), and maintain a certification as a master addictions counselor. I received a double Bachelor's Degree in Psychology and Socio-Anthropology from Transylvania University and a Master's Degree in Counseling Psychology from Lewis & Clark College. My Master's program provided me with additional training and education in the areas of marriage, couples, and family therapy and substance use counseling.
During my internship hours, I was able to work and gain experience in a youth residential substance use treatment program providing individual, family, and group therapies while focusing on co-occurring mental health and substance use challenges. As I entered my professional career, I began providing services in outpatient treatment and private practice settings. Although my experience has been across the lifespan, I have specific interest and experience with adolescents and transitional age youth. I have worked within wraparound teams to provide case management, care coordination, individual/family/group therapies, skills training, and crisis intervention. My primary areas of interest and focus have been related to trauma, depression, anxiety, substance use, and other behavioral concerns.
Counseling is a deeply personal encounter that allows for change, growth and development; it is an opportunity for those who receive it to recognize their strengths and find solutions to their challenges in a safe and collaborative environment. Counseling provides ways to express feelings, understand patterns of thinking and behaving, gain perspective on past events and current relationships, and set and clarify goals for the future. It can both alleviate pain and suffering, and add meaning and richness to life.
Counseling provides the opportunity to map strengths, resources, and resiliency which allow us to develop a plan that will move your teen towards the identified goals. My belief is that most change occurs through forming and experiencing a trusting, emotionally safe relationship, and in the context of that relationship increasing the awareness of self, challenging old patterns, beliefs and behaviors, learning new skills, and establishing appropriate boundaries in relationships with others.
Within the therapeutic relationship, I will work to empower your teen to develop awareness of self and others and consider their coping skills in the face of stress and change. As awareness increases, I will support your teen in developing healthy ways of expressing and fulfilling their needs in age appropriate and health ways. I believe that we are all the experts in our own life, and that with support, encouragement, and the appropriate tools – we can develop the healthy and appropriate solution that will move us toward our end goal.
I am looking forward to helping your teen on their journey!

My daughter has seen a few counselors over the years, and has never been able to connect, and open up. Amber has been great at communicating with my daughter as well as myself. I appreciate her willingness to explore different aspects of what is going on, and helping get to the root of the problem.
She is fantastic!!! Love working with her.
Amber is a great person and counselor. Her inviting and reassuring nature make it so easy to open up to her and express my true feelings without guilt. I have loved my time with her and am excited to continue my journey with her.

My wife and I really appreciate Amber’s non-judge mental approach to hear each person’s personal problems. Able to be a respectful 3rd party, non-biased mediator to assist in each persons issues, concerns, and flaws. Thanks Amber !
She is very helpful so far! I look forward to continuing our sessions.
Even though my partner and I don't agree on much, Amber really seems to understand us both and meet us where we are at individually and together. It's pretty awesome. We feel grateful for her.
I can’t believe how great Amber is! She is far and above the best counselor I’ve ever seen. She gets to the heart of the issues without bringing down the mood. I have severe PTSD and if you do too she is a great person to see. I’m able to talk with her about my symptoms without feeling re-triggered and without feeling like relationship problems are my fault because of it. 10 out of 10, 5 stars, best counselor ever!
From the very first session, Amber gave me things to think about that I had not considered before. She listened very well. She was personable. I liked her right away and aim to continue my goals with her.
