About me

I am a substance abuse and mental health counselor licensed in Hawaii with 5 years of experience working in community mental health. I have worked with various agencies providing services to children and adolescents, working with families (including those with youth in foster care), and with adults experiencing a wide variety of difficulties. I have worked as a substance abuse counselor for 3 years, and have 4 years of experience working with clients involved in the legal system as well as those who have severe mental illnesses. In my work with children and families I have encountered youth who experience depression, trauma, adjustment problems, and oppositional behaviors.

My counseling style focuses on the client and the problems they are experiencing from their perspective. I focus on helping clients develop their inner self so they can overcome life's challenges. My approach combines cognitive-behavioral, humanistic, and motivational enhancement techniques to help move the client from problem to solution, and then to success. Because each client is unique, I work with each individual to develop a plan that works for them and focuses on their strengths.

Reaching out for help is a huge task. There are a lot of "what ifs" involved, and the added pressure of being a teen can make things even harder. I'm happy to have a conversation with you and help in any way I can. Together we can move forward.

Have worked with Sarah for a while now and find our sessions to be very helpful. She listens, remembers names of the people in my life, and is very relatable. Also she is willing to go whatever speed I am comfortable with, slow when I need, and pushing me when I need that. Highly recommend.

Sarah knows exactly when to listen and when to give her advice. And when she does the latter, it's thoughtful, it's backed by her expertise, and it's applicable. She provides you with tools and approaches to tackle any given situation, and as someone who likes to take immediate action — I find that extremely helpful. I would recommend Sarah to anyone who is looking for results.

We have only had a couple of sessions with Sarah but both my partner and I both feel we are in great hands. Sarah takes her time to get to understand us and approaches our situation with a very unbiased perspective, helping us set realistic expectations and identifying what we can work on to improve. Thank you Sarah for your caring, gentle, yet resourceful and honest approach. Looking forward to our sessions.

Sarah has been the most compassionate of all therapists that I have used with teen counseling or otherwise. Her sensitivity and ability to listen whole heartedly has been a huge relief to me.

I have been working with Sarah for several months now. She is kind, insightful and genuinely cares. She has helped me start to connect my past emotional trauma and my current mental health. I have been able to learn tools and with her guidance, have started to change my way of approaching not only day to day stressors, but menacing old wounds as well. I know that I have a long way to go, but in Sarah, I know that I have someone there with me that has my back.

Sarah is a great therapist in the way she is attentive to your thoughts and feelings and is able to hone in on what problems we can work on. I have had experience with other therapists where they seem stone face and with no emotion but Sarah is able to connect with you while still remaining professional. Would strongly recommend her for anyone dealing with anxiety or depression especially

First and foremost, mahalo nui loa (thank you very much), for this wonderful website. Btw, so glad you have an app for this. Thank you for pairing me up with Sarah. Sarah has been very understanding and helpful. With this review I feel like I'm judging her though she never judges me or my issues. I look forward to writing in my journal when needed. Just being able to write down what I'm going through at the moment is a biggie for me. I realized how much I was holding in. Sarah has always responded kindly and in a timely manner. I look forward to our sessions always. Aloha.
