About me

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor, National Certified Counselor, with a Master of Science in Counseling Psychology from Troy State University and I am a certified child and adolescent trauma professional (CATP), and certified mindfulness-informed clinician (CMC-1). I have over 10 years of experience working as a counselor and life coach. I have worked with clients with a wide range of concerns including depression, anxiety, peer-relationship issues, parenting problems, career planning challenges, OCD and ADHD. I also helped many children who have experienced physical trauma or emotional abuse.

My clients include children, adolescents, and families. I have extensive training in treating childhood trauma, anxiety, and depression. I have worked in community mental health settings, schools, inpatient psychiatric facilities, child and family agencies, substance abuse treatment center, and private practice. I utilize a variety of techniques and skills drawn from recognized therapeutic modalities including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution Focused, Psychoeducation, Motivational Interviewing, Behavior Modification, Person-Centered, and Mindfulness-Relaxation.

I believe that healing is a collaborative endeavor that requires honest caring without judgment, and I cooperatively assist my clients in clarifying their goals for treatment. Rather than adopting one methodology for all individuals and issues, I draw from a variety of methods to create a tailored approach for each individual and situation. I believe in working in partnership with clients, utilizing their strengths to help them sort out their challenges and achieve their goals. I also realize how important it is to identify all aspects of an individual’s life that impact their well-being including their physical health, support systems (family, friends), work or school environment, and faith/spirituality in this process.

As a therapist, I am warm, open, encouraging, and direct. I consider myself an active therapist, combining experience, education, creativity, and sense of humor with a down-to-earth, realistic approach to counseling. I strive to bring an effective blend of experience, expertise, clarity, concern and action to the counseling process in order to maximize outcomes and provide genuine healing and wholeness to every client I service.

Reaching out for help is the first and hardest step; its also the one that leads to a healthier, happier tomorrow. I want to thank you for allowing me to walk beside you on this journey. I look forward to meeting you.

I was so hesitant to use teen counseling, unsure that I would be able to find a counselor that would truly make a difference, and that I would be able to connect with. Roberta has taken the time to understand me, and has really helped guide me to my truth. She always makes sure to empower me and I leave our sessions feeling stronger and more firm in myself. She’s provided we me with the tools I need to manage my anxiety and my quality of life has dramatically improved.

I would have given all tens but our compatible meeting times were in conflict which was no fault of the counselor. She was a great listener and a joy to talk to. I wish her nothing but success
