I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in Texas with over 15 years of experience working as a therapist and over 25 years of experience working with children and families recovering from trauma, grief and loss. I have worked with clients suffering with a wide range of diagnoses including mood disorder, depression, bi-polar, anxiety, panic, trauma, PTSD, dissociative disorders, psychosis, adjustment disorders and gender dysphoria. In the last year, I have had the privilege of adding two trauma-specific certifications to address the complexities of primary, secondary and compound emotional and psychological trauma. I am hopeful that my diligence to stay abreast of the latest research and treatment in trauma will benefit most trauma-impacted lives. Additionally, I have been able to increase my trauma-focused enrichment with the pursuit of certifications in Body-Work treatments for trauma and stress-impacted presentations.
I have been working specifically with teens since 1995! I have a soft spot in my heart for teens. Teens are basically the reason that I learned how to help any other population. I fell in love with the energy, attitude and noble defiance that teens bring to the table when there is a problem to be solved. I also love being a person that they can truly trust when it may seem that all of the adult resources have ceased to understand where they're coming from. I understand how difficult it is to lean into a teenager's perspective as a parent. I am that too--a parent. I have raised 3 to adulthood and have a 14 year old at home. All of my kids help me stay youthful in my outlook and balanced in my approach to solving problems with my teen clients and the one I have at home :)
If you have a teen at home that simply needs a place to problem-solve or maybe there are some very serious symptoms at play, I would be honored to work with your teen. Let me know if I can help.
Looking forward to meeting you!

I’ve enjoyed my time in therapy with Lori St Ama, she’s helped me tackle tough issues and make breakthroughs without feeling like she’s just telling me what I want to hear. She listens, and offers advice and suggestions but also letting you talk thru it. I’ve never been so pleased with counseling, and have really felt the positive benefits I’ve been getting from counseling
Lori listens to me and helps me feel good about myself. She's helped me come up with ways to handle certain situations. She is awesome!
Lori pays attention to the issues I bring to her, asking questions and/or providing feedback as appropriate. She has a high attention to detail, and is very supportive. Prior to Lori, I have never, successfully gotten anything out of counseling/therapy. But Lori's approach has been very helpful. I cannot recommend her enough.
She’s amazing!! I would recommend her to anyone
Lori is wonderfully insightful and supportive, and has connected the dots over our many sessions to have a deep understanding of my unique challenges and experiences.
Lori St Ama is an outstanding therapist. She is compassionate and passionate. She challenges me in a way marked by kindness and gentleness.
Dr.Lori is amazing! She’s genuine, intelligent and calming in nature. I am very happy and thankful to have her expertise and experience to listen to my trials and tribulations, and helping me help myself navigate through as best as possible. She makes me feel as though I’m sitting down to talk to a trusted friend - what more can you ask for ?
Lori has exceeded all of my expectations, her seasoned expertise shines through each session. Being very engaging and attentive our meetings don't feel too clinical but more organic and tailored. The use of the online journal and messaging has allowed for real time updates and offers a platform for me to share pertinent information and keep Lori informed of my thoughts and progress. I have every faith in her abilities as we venture forward.
Lori is amazing! From the first session she gave me practical tools to use to reduce my anxiety and frustration. She focused on what I needed most to make the biggest impact to improve my life. She guides with thoughtful questions and listens with empathy. I wish everyone could have sessions with Lori!
I greatly appreciate all the support Lori has provided to my daughter. My daughter quickly opened up and was able to dive deep with Lori.
I can’t thank Lori enough. She’s given me tools to expand and ground myself in many ways. She’s compassionate towards me and very encouraging in my journey and endeavors.
I am grateful for the advice and support of my counselor.
Lori has been one of the most caring, and insightful persons I have ever met. Offering more than just wisdom, but allowing to face the things I buried years ago. I am very very thankful for her.
For the longest time I feared Therapy as a whole, but Lori has made it the best experience I could ever hope for, and it is exactly what I need.
Lori has been amazing for me. She really makes me feel like I'm a priority during sessions and like we are working together towards improvement, rather than feeling like I'm being given homework or like she's trying to give me a blanket solution and get rid of me. Explaining my LGBTQ+ and poly stuff was quick and easy and she made me feel instantly accepted. She gives me solutions or tricks that are personalized to me and listens when I tell her what I want to focus on in my sessions. It all feels very positive and productive.
I like Lori, she is easy to communicate with.
I've gotten more out of 1 video session with Lori than I ever have with 4 other traditional counselors in the past. Lori treats me like an individual, not a case number. For the first time ever I'm able to talk about my problems and collaborate- working *together* toward understanding my feelings and thought patterns. As opposed to focusing on things I don't want to focus on. I love being able to write her any time. Most of the time it's really just having someone I can text or "talk" to in the moment that's giving me clarity and helps me put my thoughts into concrete words.
My first session with Lori went wonderful, she made sure we touched on all of the concerns I had mentioned in messages before the session and did a great job of making me feel heard and supported.
Lori has been so kind and compassionate as she helps me understand and cope with my trauma.
Lori has been a great help. I really appreciate her being so open minded especially with Polyamory and LGBTQ+ topics. I feel like I can open up to her naturally. I also really appreciate her seeing the good parts of myself. Her positive affirmations really make my day at the end of the session no matter what the struggles I'm facing are. I highly recommend her.
Great listener actually helps me figure out why I feel the way I’m feeling instead of brushing me off just very easy to talk to !
Lori is very caring person I just one session I felt so much better.
Genuinely, the best therapist ever.
Kind, understanding, and knowledgeable.
From the very start Lori has been so respectful, kind and patient. She is so easy to talk to and nurturing. In the short time we've been working together I've felt like I really have an ally. She's helped me in the simplest and most profound ways. I feel like I'm not holding my breath anymore.
