About me
Welcome! You're here because you have a teen who is struggling, or you ARE a teen who is having a rough time. You've already shown a great amount of courage and initiative in taking your first steps toward embracing your best self; it is an honor and a privilege for me to help you do just that.
I'd like to give you some information about my background. I received my B.A. in psychology from Elizabethtown College in Elizabethtown, PA in 2004. After graduating college, I worked in the community as an outreach case worker for adults with chronic and severe mental health diagnoses as well as dual diagnoses. During this time, I assisted in crisis intervention, clinical assessment, as well as individual/group counseling to evaluate treatment goals and objectives. I went on to receive my M.A. in Counseling Psychology from Centenary College in Hackettstown, NJ in 2009. When I obtained approval by the State of New Jersey as a Licensed Professional Counselor in 2015, I began working for a community agency as an intensive in-home clinician for at-risk children, youth and their families. During this time, I've had the privilege of providing individual as well as family counseling services to those families in need of stabilization in the community.
I consider myself to be a very client-focused clinician; your beliefs, needs and goals are what drive treatment first and foremost. I also like to incorporate tools from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy as well as Motivational Interviewing. I feel as though the key to change is mindset; as a result, I like to do a good deal of work with mindfulness as well as cognitive reframing. As someone who has worked with a great many families, I also have a wealth of experience in family dynamics, healthy communications, and appropriate boundary setting within the family unit. I also have the benefit of parenting experience through having a toddler of my own!
Some areas of focus with which I have experience treating include: depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, self-injury, relationship issues, parenting problems, family issues, career challenges, and panic disorder. I've worked with both children and adults who have faced abandonment, emotional trauma, physical trauma, or sexual trauma.
I consider myself an easygoing, disarming person to talk to; my job is to make you feel comfortable, as if you are talking to an old friend. I also pride myself in getting people to utilize a different lens through which they can view the world; one with endless possibilities, less pain, and more peace. My sincere hope is that I can help promote healing and lasting change for you, regardless of what you seek.

Reviews
These quotes represent just a few of the many positive reviews that we have received for Kristy Nimz. We don't pay anyone to provide their review and they are all made voluntarily. Some people's experience receiving therapy with Teen Counseling might be different.
Kristy Nimz was excellent in helping me set boundaries with my adult son who is struggling with anxiety and depression. I feel she has a lot of experience in this area so we were able to work through issues quickly. She is an excellent listener and has practical, real life actionable solutions and suggestions.
Kristy is amazing- she has given me so many tools to work through day to day anxieties and the general overwhelming responsibilities that life throws at us. I had the option to start back at therapy with a free program through work, but opted to restart my journey with Kristy and teencounseling.com because I felt such a connection and love the platform. Very thankful to have a therapist who understands, guides, and motivates me and a platform that allows me to prioritize my mental health in a way that isn’t disruptive to my busy lifestyle!
Attentive and understanding I feel heard
Kristy is a kind and empathetic listener who was able to help me begin to see where I can improve my life.
I am SO happy to be working with Kristy! She is absolutely amazing, not only does she listen to me but she really does give some amazing advice. Her perspective allows me to really think outside the box and come up with alternate solutions to try. She cheers me on all the way!
She is the best
Kristy is a thoughtful and therapist and genuine human being. A +++
First therapist I’ve ever felt comfortable laying everything out there with.
She makes me feel like all of the things I am feeling are perfectly natural. Anyone who experience what I have would feel this way, and then gives me skills and techniques I can use to decrease anxiety and increase my comfort and security.
I enjoy her insights. She is quite knowledgeable and is able to guide you to see things from a different perspective.
Kristy is a great therapist and I feel so comfortable talking with her. So listens and understands what I am saying while also offering a different view point and how I can make changes.
Not easy to find the right therapist but I definitely found mine. Kristy is great, always pay attention to my issues and remembers them well and provide great feedback, suggestions and perspectives
Kristy understands my concerns and helps me reach my goals. She helps me re-frame my thinking and holds me accountable. Thank you, Kristy!
Kristy has been a bright light in my life since I’ve begun counseling with her. She is incredibly supportive, honest, and kind, and I feel like she has truly made a meaningful difference in my life!
LOVE LOVE LOVE this. So lucky that my daughter matched with Kristy first time. Working out great for her.
Kristy is wonderful! I am just starting out my therapy journey with her and this application but she has made me feel incredibly safe during our discussions and has helped me formulate a plan to have a toolbox of strategies for when I am having a hard time with something. So far my experience has been excellent and I am happy to continue working with her to tackle my anxiety :)
Kristy is an amazing counselor, and listens to me, responds quickly, adjusts her schedule when necessary, challenges me to think differently and overall has really helped improve my mental health
I can always rely on Kristy to say the right things and get me back on track
