About Me

I was inspired to become a mental health counselor by seeing the positive impact that my mother had counseling children of families involved in domestic violence. I firmly believe in the power of providing a safe, nonjudgmental space for people to express themselves and work through challenges. Children and teens are experiencing challenges that adults may not easily understand due to the continuous changes in our world. I aim to build a comfortable and supportive environment to allow teens the opportunity to process changes, transitions, and challenges.

I primarily use a cognitive behavioral therapeutic approach, however, I believe in person-centered principles and I will pull from other approaches as needed (acceptance and commitment therapy, solution-focused therapy, psychodynamic therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, mindfulness therapy). I specialize in anxiety, depression and obsessive-compulsive related disorders. I have observed that anxiety and depression are incredibly common concerns that often accompany transitions, stressors or may come out of the blue. Regardless of the severity, I believe that there is always room to help your teen feel more secure with themselves and others.

I have a Bachelor of Science in Biopsychology, Cognition, and Neuroscience and a Master of Science in Clinical Rehabilitation and Mental Health Counseling. I spent four years conducting mental health research with children and adolescents that experienced stressful life situations and a variety of mood disorders. I then worked as a therapist for four years providing services to children as young as four years old through all ages of adulthood. I enjoy counseling individuals of all ages and cultures including people of all gender identities and sexual orientations.

Emily has such a gentle approach in how she listens and offers simple yet profound advice. After going to so many therapists over the years, I can easily say that Emily is, by far, the best. We hope to keep an ongoing client/therapist relationship for the foreseeable future.

I have only had a few sessions with Emily so far. But it’s been an amazing experience. I truly didn’t think therapy would help this much. I was originally placed with a therapist that I didn’t feel comfortable with at all. Emily has made me feel so comfortable and welcome and has definitely given me a place I can just vent and have someone help organize all my feelings and thoughts. I would highly recommend Emily to others!

Emily is amazingly compassionate, wonderfully kind, very knowledgeable, and immensely helpful! She listens, gives me various tools that can help me cope with emotions or work through issues, and empowers me to feel competent and confident in using those tools! She is one of my favorite therapists I’ve ever worked with and I’m excited to learn and grow even more while continuing to work with her!

Emily is a thoughtful, compassionate, and skilled therapist. She consistently demonstrates the art of truly listening, and practices reflective communication. Her approach to each session appears firmly rooted in genuine concern and appreciation for her clients, and with each meeting I’ve felt valued, heard, validated, and cared for. She has helped tremendously in the midst of incredibly complex emotional struggles, and I’m so grateful to know that I can count on her guidance and support as I navigate towards a healthier future.

Emily is prompt to respond, attentive when listening , helpful with all sorts of resources, most importantly friendly and easy to talk to. highly recommend Emily! She helps keep things on track and helps us work towards a common goal by bringing it back to the problem instead of allowing us to argue. Great job and I look forward to all the work to help us going forward.

Emily has been very helpful for my wife and I in our couples counseling. We really appreciate her in session and outside of them with the worksheets and resources she shares with us on this platform. She feels engaged with our conversations in a way that provides a reflection of the dynamics of our marriage in different ways than we typically cycle through and that has helped us break down some communication barriers.

Emily has done an excellent job at making me feel comfortable and addressing all of my concerns. From day one she made sure to address the main issue that incited me to initiate therapy and also asked thoughtful questions which encouraged me to think and process my issues in new helpful ways.
