About me

I’m so glad that you are reaching out to find help in this chaotic world we are living in! So many people choose to live in “anxious mode”, but by taking this first step, we can work toward changing your life to “happy and stress-free mode”.

Before starting my career as a behavior disordered teacher, I taught at a juvenile detention facility for children ages 11-17 who were incarcerated. I saw children who had made poor choices and were living the results of them, but no one was helping them understand that other choices have better consequences. I went on to teach behavior disorders for 7 years, then became a school counselor. After opening my own practice, the juvenile officers realized I liked working with teenagers who were having issues, so I had many referrals from them. Along with these referrals came students from many local junior high and high schools who were experiencing a realm of issues, including grief, suicidal thoughts, low self-esteem, socialization problems, stepparent issues, depression, and self-harm to name a few. These children need to realize that they are not alone and that there is help, and that is what I will focus of doing.

I love helping people change their mindset from “I can’t take this anymore!” to “Oh, life is good after all!” Sometimes another person’s perspective on situations helps volumes, and that is what I do. I help offer solutions using a variety of techniques in a non-judgmental and compassionate way. My style includes Behavior-focused therapy, Person-centered therapy, and Reality therapy, with some Mindfulness all rolled in together to fit their personal needs and unique personality. I love life, and each day is an adventure-I hope that I can help your child on their journey to find this same love of life!

I've had more than my share of counselors in the past. Some are horrible, some are good and some are great! So far Diana has been GREAT! Let me start off by saying you can only expect so much. For $80/week you can't expect someone to be available every waking hour to address your every single need. With that said you can expect someone to make a effort and to show they care. This is what I love about Diana so far! I have written long drawn out messages and my partner and I have had some back and forth debates. Diana takes the time to read them and address these issues. During our first meeting she knew exactly what the issues were and it was clear that she had done her "homework". You could tell she had been reading our posts and keeping track of our concerns. She's willing to voice her opinion and isn't afraid of stepping on someone's toes. She's not a "yes" person who just goes along with whatever you say. We have only had one meeting so far. Normally I would be hesitant to leave a review this early on. With that said I get great vibes from Diana and am extremely optimistic about our future of working together. You can tell she is in it for the right reasons and truly cares about her clients. I will update my review as our sessions progress.

Written on Mar 11, 2021 after therapy with Diana for 8 months on issues concerning depression, stress, anxiety, addictions, relationship issues, trauma and abuse, intimacy-related issues, self esteem, compassion fatigue, and adhd

I very much enjoy my sessions with Diana! She takes the time to listen to my concerns and puts forth practical ways to achieve my goals (worksheets, writing things down, setting up a planner, making lists- I’m sure we will plan more). These tangible methods show she is invested in my goals, and helping me accomplish them in a healthy way. It helps me prioritize and structure my own goals for getting mentally and physically settled, so I can best tackle personal and professional life. I also appreciate that some days when I just need to be able to talk, she is able to pivot and flesh out my concerns without concrete plans (some days that’s all you need!). She genuinely listens to me, and demonstrates concern and respect for my well-being, while helping me see and plan for the future. It’s wonderful to talk and work with Diana! I enjoy our sessions very much, and am so grateful to have her checking in on me! Can’t recommend Diana anymore!

Diana Schaffer is a good counselor. She cares about your situation. She listen and gives good advice. Each session i had i always feel better after speaking with her.

When she speaks to you she don't make you feel like a patient but somehow it feels like you're talking to a friend someone you can trust. On a scale 1-10 i give her an 11.

Diana is the first therapist that I’ve worked with that actually listens. Her ability to hear things and truly want to give space for the me to process my own feelings has been unique and wonderful. She also has a gift—it’s called being human. She is funny and super relatable. My husband has found her to be a joy to work as well.

I liked how quickly Diana got to the heart of the problem, on something that Jim and I have been working on for years. For the first time I feel like there is going to be happiness in our future. Since our first counseling session we have talked more than we have in 5 years.

Written on Jul 18, 2020 after therapy with Diana for 2 weeks on issues concerning depression, stress, anxiety, relationship issues, family conflicts, sleeping disorders, parenting issues, self esteem, anger management, career difficulties, and compassion fatigue

Diana has been great in helping me with my anxiety as a new mom and young with and she’s given me some wonderful tools to use when I’m struggling or to prevent the struggle all together. Also it’s wonderful having an unbiased “ear” to “listen.” Even if it’s really late/really early in the morning I can type up a journal entry and get everything off my chest that I need to and she will respond when she can which I think is so great.

Work with me!
