About Me

I am a Wisconsin Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 33 years of experience working as a Counselor with transition age youth, 13-24. I have found this population to be incredibly fulfilling. I appreciate the stage of development, transition and motivation to make change. I specialize in working with young people who have experienced trauma, loss and are often experiencing anxiety and depression. There are many developmentally appropriate risks and challenges that occur during this stage all of which can be incredibly difficult to navigate. I also recognize the inequities in the world specifically for people of color. The added stress of identifying as an oppressed and marginalized group makes this stage of development that much more difficult.

I consider myself to be a "real" therapist and I build strong and trusting relationships with young people, specifically those who "don't want therapy". I offer a lot of validation, reflection and listening and support young people in coming up with their own conclusions.
I look forward to getting to know you and supporting you in getting to place that feels more comfortable and fulfilling.

Daniel is amazing. He ticks every box when it comes to what I look for in a counselor. Hes open and honest and guides me in a way that matches my personality. He will even check in on me on his own time. 10/10.

Daniel was very easy to talk to from the opening meeting. I was able to express myself with honesty and felt comfortable to do so. His advice and guidance has been enormously helpful to me.
I highly recommend Daniel and teen counseling as a service in general. It has given me a base of support that I never had in the past.

What an absolutely amazing first experience with teen counseling. Daniel strikes the balance between active listening and thoughtful feedback that only a profesional of his experience could pull off. I feel lighter after our sessions and know I’ve found a therapist I can stick with.

Daniel is very helpful and understanding. We were looking for someone who could help us communicate better and more respectfully. He is polite and really cares. I have had a not so good experience with another counselor on this site, she was very unhelpful, focused on telling me what I was doing wrong, often sided with my GF, picked out all of my issues. Daniel is impartial and is able to help both of us understand how we affect each other and really help us "teen counseling" our relationship.

My partner and I have really liked working with Daniel. He was extremely sensitive to our problem yet direct. He saw both sides and was able to get us to see each other’s side. He was very, very punctual and got back to us in a timely manner when we needed it the most. Thank you, Daniel Villarreal!!
