About me

I have been working as a Marriage and Family therapist since 2010. I was licensed in New Mexico for most of my career, but transferred to Washington state in 2016. I have worked with individuals and families from a variety of backgrounds and income levels and even served as a crisis counselor for a detention center for several years. Depression, anxiety, family/relationship problems, parenting issues, substance abuse, and Bipolar Disorder are part of my regular case load. I also enjoy working with clients who just feel "stuck" and need some support to find their way forward in life.

Working with teens has provided opportunities to look at the world in new ways as we explore options to help them navigate the complicated and ever changing path to adulthood. I have assisted clients in discovering the best educational path to help them reach their goals. I have also worked with clients who struggle to make friends, feel accepted, or feel alone and forgotten. Youth have challenges presented to them from real life peers to social media saboteurs. It is important to help them make healthy decisions regarding online safety, connecting with family and healthy peers, and focusing on their ultimate goals for future success.

I try to keep my sessions friendly and welcoming. I enjoy humor and feel that it is a healthy coping skill to be utilized. Every problem has a solution waiting to be found and my goal is to help clients find their own unique solutions to life's most complicated issues. My practice includes cognitive behavioral approaches as well as mindfulness and solution focused therapy. I treat individuals as unique cases and avoid lumping people into categories. I feel that individuals are the experts on their own lives since they live with themselves 24/7. My job is to help guide them to healthier choices for a happier life.

Therapy can be an intimidating process. My goal is to make it comfortable, helpful, and maybe even a little fun.

If you’re looking for a counselor don’t look any further. Cindy is the most compassionate, caring, understanding and professional counselor I have ever met. She is very dedicated and honest, she is very knowledgeable and passionate to help. It’s not only knowledge she obtained from studying, but also knowledge and wisdom one experiences in life. She has it. She is an amazing human being. She’s been there for me when I had no one else to turn to. I can’t recommend her enough. teen counseling, you have every reason to be proud to have her on your team.

Written on Aug 09, 2023 after therapy with Cindy for 2 weeks on issues concerning stress, anxiety, addictions, relationship issues, family conflicts, career difficulties, and coping with life changes

Cindy accepts me as I am and tries to help me in ways that work for me, rather than giving me cookie-cutter solutions that ignore where I am.
I really appreciate her. In this day and age so many interactions have become so sterile and generic, even with health care professionals, seeing you as a collection of stats rather than an individual. It feels so good to be heard and to know that what she tells me is for me alone and not “people my age and with my mental health issues”. I can look that up online. I need individual help and she provides it.

Written on Jun 29, 2023 after therapy with Cindy for 1 month on issues concerning depression, stress, anxiety, relationship issues, family conflicts, and trauma and abuse

Cindy has been absolutely excellent. I love every session with her. She both pushes you to grow but keeps you comfortable, which is so hard to do. I'm glad I found her after trying so many people.

Written on Jun 21, 2023 after therapy with Cindy for 8 months on issues concerning depression, stress, anxiety, family conflicts, parenting issues, and coping with life changes

Cindy is amazing! I always feel heard and supported, and I walk away from every session with a tool or something attainable to work on. I can tell that all her advice is helping me slowly make the mindset shifts when I catch myself in behavior patterns and can stop my thought process and adjust. Her humor and humanity always make me laugh and feel like I’ve spent time with a good friend (just a really smart one).

Cindy is a gem. I learned to trust her because my daughter had her as a therapist. I would hear how she was helping my daughter and could see the beautiful transformation taking place. I wanted that kind of help. So when I asked if I could be paired up with Cindy, she was delighted and said yes. I can’t say enough about how incredibly helpful Cindy has been. She’s been in the trenches with me. She’s validated, she’s given perspective, she’s offered new ways for me to approach life. She’s never been disgusted with anything I’ve said and she’s been my cheerleader. I’m in a completely different place in my journey to healing. I’m so grateful that Cindy has been willing to take this journey with me. Her expertise in knowing how to help has been what I needed to help me be brave and dig deep to find freedom in so many areas of my life.

The staff is amazing the time it took to find a therapist was relatively short, and I felt a good connection with my therapist I think I’m one of the lucky if you got it right off the bat. Also it was just very needed even if it’s just talking about nothing we’re just talking about how I feel and having someone there to listen is amazing especially with the text chat. I would highly recommend.

Written on Mar 10, 2021 after therapy with Cindy for 8 months on issues concerning stress, anxiety, career difficulties, compassion fatigue, and adhd

Cindy has been a godsend this last year. The ability to brain dump my thoughts and feelings - in the heat of the moment - to get things off my chest has been the defining factor for me. She checks in with me regularly, which helps to keep the accountability but doesn't punish me for not reaching out, which makes counseling not feel like another 'to-do' but a support system when and how I need it.

I recommend teen counseling and speak highly of Cindy to anyone that'll listen. :)

I’ve been trying to find a counselor for years who would actually help me, not just allow me to relive past trauma over and over.
Cindy has been very helpful listening to me and offering advice when warranted.
I legit get excited that I have a new message because it means I’m taking steps to healing and that feels really good.

Cindy is an amazing therapist. She is very kind and understanding, very helpful and attentive to problems. She offers lots of different ways to work through issues. Ever since I started talking with her I have felt better about myself and less worried about the future. She helps you see things in a way you may not have thought of before and that can be really helpful for people like me. What I value most about Cindy is that she realizes how important the whole family is in supporting the teen. Up until finding her it seemed like counselors were dividing our family instead of uniting our family. Her ability to keep lines of communication open have been very helpful. She is compassionate and thorough. She has wonderful ideas that work. I highly recommend her.

Cindy is knowledgeable in the care she provides. She cares for me in a holistic manner and encourages physical, mental and spiritual wellbeing. Not that she forces religion but allows her clients to find meaning of life. She goes above and beyond by sending worksheets and "checking-in" messages. God is who I turn to first when I'm having a difficult time and while I patiently give it up to God (my stress, anxiety, fear), I know Cindy is there for me 24/7 and also shows just as much compassion for me...helps me to stay grounded.

Cindy Johnson is a good match for what I was looking for when signing up at teen counseling. The flexible schedule allows me to add therapy and counseling into my weekly routine without feeling like it is "one more thing" to do. Talking to Cindy Johnson helps me process and sort out all of the stress in my head. I feel better and feel like it is very much worth the time and money. I've done in person therapy and now teen counseling and I can say that both were exactly what I needed.

Cindy is amazing. Her response time to my lengthy and random emails is almost immediate. She even reaches out when I don't respond.
