Cindy Johnson

(LMFT)

About Me

I have been working as a Marriage and Family therapist since 2010. I was licensed in New Mexico for most of my career, but transferred to Washington state in 2016. I have worked with individuals and families from a variety of backgrounds and income levels and even served as a crisis counselor for a detention center for several years. Depression, anxiety, family/relationship problems, parenting issues, substance abuse, and Bipolar Disorder are part of my regular case load. I also enjoy working with clients who just feel "stuck" and need some support to find their way forward in life.

Working with teens has provided opportunities to look at the world in new ways as we explore options to help them navigate the complicated and ever changing path to adulthood. I have assisted clients in discovering the best educational path to help them reach their goals. I have also worked with clients who struggle to make friends, feel accepted, or feel alone and forgotten. Youth have challenges presented to them from real life peers to social media saboteurs. It is important to help them make healthy decisions regarding online safety, connecting with family and healthy peers, and focusing on their ultimate goals for future success.

I try to keep my sessions friendly and welcoming. I enjoy humor and feel that it is a healthy coping skill to be utilized. Every problem has a solution waiting to be found and my goal is to help clients find their own unique solutions to life's most complicated issues. My practice includes cognitive behavioral approaches as well as mindfulness and solution focused therapy. I treat individuals as unique cases and avoid lumping people into categories. I feel that individuals are the experts on their own lives since they live with themselves 24/7. My job is to help guide them to healthier choices for a happier life.

Therapy can be an intimidating process. My goal is to make it comfortable, helpful, and maybe even a little fun.

Cindy continues to be a great resource for my wife and I. Not sure where we'd be without her. She's amazing.

Written by B.R. on Jun 01, 2020 after counseling with Cindy for 2 months on issues concerning stress, anxiety

My first counselor experience years ago was terrible. They made me feel abnormal and scared. Cindy has been wonderful at verbalizing the thoughts I throw at her, and making me understand it’s normal, and there are tools for my racing mind.

I really think that Cindy’s help is the main reason my marriage has a chance or surviving. She is amazing and perceptive and so helpful.

Strongly recommend teen counseling and Cindy Johnson to others. Cindy is very encouraging and a great listener with many helpful suggestions.

Written by M.I. on May 12, 2020 after counseling with Cindy for 2 weeks on issues concerning depression, stress, anxiety, relationship issues, family conflicts, trauma and abuse, self esteem, and anger management

I’ve been trying to find a counselor for years who would actually help me, not just allow me to relive past trauma over and over.
Cindy has been very helpful listening to me and offering advice when warranted.
I legit get excited that I have a new message because it means I’m taking steps to healing and that feels really good.

Cindy is smart, respectful, and incredibly insightful. She is non-judgemental, honest, and I feel like she really understands and appreciates what’s being said.

Very helpful and insightful. I have been in therapy before, but working with Cindy has been more productive than months before.

Cindy Johnson has helped not only the relationship after my partner cheated and lied, but she most importantly helped me cope and find myself in all of our sessions. She helped me see both sides of view as well as put some order to my very hurt discombobulated thoughts and feelings so I could progress forward.

Written by S.H. on Apr 26, 2020 after counseling with Cindy for 1 year and 3 months on issues concerning depression, stress, anxiety, and self esteem

Cindy is an amazing therapist. She is very kind and understanding, very helpful and attentive to problems. She offers lots of different ways to work through issues. Ever since I started talking with her I have felt better about myself and less worried about the future. She helps you see things in a way you may not have thought of before and that can be really helpful for people like me. She really has helped me in a tremendous way and I dont think I would be where I am without her.

Cindy is great!

Written by N.I. on Apr 16, 2020 after counseling with Cindy for 4 months

What I value most about Cindy is that she realizes how important the whole family is in supporting the teen. Up until finding her it seemed like counselors were dividing our family instead of uniting our family. Her ability to keep lines of communication open have been very helpful. She is compassionate and thorough. She has wonderful ideas that work. I highly recommend her.

Written by A.N. on Apr 06, 2020 after counseling with Cindy for 2 months on issues concerning stress, anxiety, addictions, and grief

Cindy is down to earth and truly understands my issues. She makes great suggestions about what to try without pushing me to do stuff that I don’t find helpful. She uses analogies that are awesome and really help simplify what’s happening in my mind. Highly recommend Cindy!

Written by B.R. on Mar 27, 2020 after counseling with Cindy for 1 year and 1 month on issues concerning stress, anxiety, family conflicts, eating disorders, self esteem, anger management, and compassion fatigue

Cindy is knowledgeable in the care she provides. She cares for me in a holistic manner and encourages physical, mental and spiritual wellbeing. Not that she forces religion but allows her clients to find meaning of life. She goes above and beyond by sending worksheets and "checking-in" messages. God is who I turn to first when I'm having a difficult time and while I patiently give it up to God (my stress, anxiety, fear), I know Cindy is there for me 24/7 and also shows just as much compassion for me...helps me to stay grounded.

Cindy sends very extensive messages that make me feel understood and heard. She also does follow up messages when I'm in a period where I'm not responsive and I feel security in our patient-therapist relationship.

Cindy Johnson is a good match for what I was looking for when signing up at teen counseling. The flexible schedule allows me to add therapy and counseling into my weekly routine without feeling like it is "one more thing" to do. Talking to Cindy Johnson helps me process and sort out all of the stress in my head. I feel better and feel like it is very much worth the time and money. I've done in person therapy and now teen counseling and I can say that both were exactly what I needed.

Written by T.I. on Nov 22, 2019 after counseling with Cindy for 3 weeks

Cindy is outstanding. Thoughtful, patient, open minded, caring, rational and supportive. I could make a list a mile long of her good qualities and how I value her as a therapist and simply as another human being. She is literally a life saver and one I’m lucky to have.

Written by K.E. on Nov 20, 2019 after counseling with Cindy for 2 weeks on issues concerning depression, stress, anxiety, family conflicts, grief, eating disorders, self esteem, and compassion fatigue

Cindy is amazing. Her response time to my lengthy and random emails is almost immediate. She even reaches out when I don't respond. I feel that I can get more information out in an email format than a live session, but I need to do more of those. I really appreciate having her in my corner to listen to me and help me see things more clearly. I'm really thankful she's my counselor.

Her tools are useful and easy to understand and implement.

I would recommend her to anyone.

Cindy has a warm and gentle approach. She uses humor, in the right context, to help relay a point or idea that helps with the issues her clients are facing. I find that she is able to help me feel less alone and isolated in my ordeals and problems. It's easy when in depression to feel as if no one can share your pain, but Cindy has a way of shedding a humorous light on situations and offers helpful examination on the human condition.
