About me

Welcome! I am a licensed clinical social worker in Arizona where I have worked and lived since moving here from New York State in 2001. My background is in mental health and over the past 22 years I have provided services to both children, teens and adults in a variety of settings including outpatient, in home, crisis centers and as part of a mobile response unit. I have worked with clients on a range of clinical areas including managing depression and anxiety, coping with loss and trauma, family relationships, crisis intervention, and issues pertaining to children and families.

My therapeutic style is open and authentic. I integrate a range of therapeutic approaches including Solution Focused, Client Centered and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy , all depending on client need and comfort. My goal is to always meet clients where they are and work along side individuals to determine the goals, pace and focus of our work together. I value diversity and equity and believe that acceptance and cultural competency are cornerstones for all practice.

Along with my Masters Degree, I hold a Specialization in Children and Families. As a practicing school social worker for 22 years, I have a great deal of experience in providing counseling to Children and Teens as well as parents, grandparents and families. Supporting young people with a range of concerns including managing difficult emotions like anger, depression and anxiety, managing ADD , coping with COVID-19 related stresses, trauma, identity and self esteem and education issues are areas of expertise. In addition with providing counseling to teens, I am experienced in working with parents, grandparents and families in order to support them in supporting their Teens which is equally important.

I look forward to working with you to achieve your goals, big or small!

Reviews

These quotes represent just a few of the many positive reviews that we have received for Yemen Bernal. We don't pay anyone to provide their review and they are all made voluntarily. Some people's experience receiving therapy with Teen Counseling might be different.

She is simply amazing, she makes me feel heard and really has made an impact on my life and my mental health. I had a poor experience with therapy in the past and she has changed my outlook on it completely. I feel like anyone would be so lucky to have her in their mental health journey.

Yemen is amazing!

We have been with Yemen for only a short time but have been very impressed. We attempted to have our 14 year old son in therapy for a number of years but had not found a counselor who could connect well with him. But from the very first Yemen was able to have him comfortable and communicating. He is able to open up to her and I think actually looks forward to their sessions.
