About Me

Hello! Thank you for viewing my profile. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker from a small town in Illinois. I have experience working with teens and parents on a variety of issues including divorce, depression, anxiety, and relationship issues. I believe teenagers deserve the same privacy as an adult unless safety is a concern; however, I do encourage family connection. My goal is to create a safe space for teenagers to express themselves and work through their challenges. I encourage all of my clients to take the lead when setting goals for therapy; however, I can provide guidance as needed.

Clients have described me as "down to earth" and easy to talk to. I strive to be warm and authentic with a non-judgmental approach. Being a teenager is challenging and having an "outsider" who is removed from your situation can be helpful. If you are ready to begin, I am here for you.

Valerie is a wonderful counselor. I have appreciated her approach to therapy. She is realistic, grounded, and able to help me walk through things as I need to do so. She is able to read the room and provide the right amount of support/ guidance for the time or situation. She is also able to let things rest or be more informal when necessary. I haven't felt pressured to do anything or be a certain way around her. She is authentic and caring and makes me feel welcomed even when I don't have much to say.

I was having difficulty finding a local therapist for my daughter and we decided to try this method. My daughter wasn’t very enthusiastic about it at first, but was willing to give it a try. Since our options were broadened, we were quickly able to find Valerie and my daughter hit it off with her right away. She’s had other therapists in the past, but she feels Valerie has truly listened and given her tools to move forward. I am very happy my daughter finally has someone she feels connected to.

I have been working with Valerie for a few weeks. I thought I would find some benefits from "just talking to someone", and had pretty much given up on finding quality mental healthcare, but then I started working with Valerie. I had no idea how empowering, knowledgeable, and caring a good counselor can be. I am continually impressed with her knowledge, expertise, professionalism, and overall talent as a therapist. She has given me so many valuable insights, tools, and resources to guide me through my attempt at improved mental health. She's funny, down to earth, patient, and smart as can be. I couldn't be more grateful that Valerie is my counselor.
