Hello! My name is Tammy and if you are exploring Better Help than you must be struggling with something that you would like to discuss with someone who is outside your circle of friends and family. Sometimes we need someone outside our circle of support because they may know too much about us, they may be biased, judgmental, or the problem may even concern issues with them. Well, I am here to help you! The first thing I would encourage you to do is find the best counselor for you. It is important that there be a connection of trust between you and your counselor in order to have effective sessions. That being said, I assure you that most counselors will not be offended if “the fit” with a counselor you choose is not right for you and you need to find someone new. We do not take it personally; I promise.
I have been a counselor/therapist for about 14 plus years. I am also a retired Police Officer which I believe gives me a unique advantage to my job and has helped me to become a much better Social Worker for all of my clients in every job I have had. I have worked in a number of environments to include: working with suicide prevention, Substance Abuse Centers, Private practice, our countries Veterans, Hospice, LGBTQ issues, Counselor in a prison setting, in a hospital, and even up in the mountains in a retreat camp for troubled youth. I believe this also provides me the background that has helped me to work with different types of clientele which is great, because we all need help sometimes.
My specialties are Depression, Crisis Intervention, Grief and Loss, and Addiction Issues. While these are my strongest areas of expertise, I have worked with all different types of clients as you can tell from up above. My approach to counseling is mostly client centered and solution focused therapies because I believe if you can’t get the elephant out of the room first, then you can’t get to the “real” issue that actually triggered the event that brought you here to seek for some guidance and relief. I do use many different approaches of course; CBT, EMDR, Mindfulness, motivational interviewing, etc. I believe that it is my job as a counselor to know as much as I can and to continue to learn as much as I can to help my clients. It is my job to be prepared to help any and all clients that need help. My clients would describe me as calm, easy to talk to, nonjudgmental, and a great listener.
Some things you should know about me is that I am very confident in my abilities and very good at what I do. That being said; I am Very Direct with my approach and some may view this as uncaring or unkind but it is quite the opposite I assure you. I want to help you get better and in order to do that, I can't always tell you just what you want to hear. Sometimes we have to hear things that we don't want to hear or don't want to acknowledge about ourselves or others. I am Direct and Honest and don't coddle my clients. However, I also counter that by using a lot of humor to offset the "perceived tense" atmosphere that the client may be feeling so that the point gets across but they don't feel attacked. While some may not like this approach, I have been extremely successful in my career and like I said I am very confident in what I do.
Also, you should know in advance is that I don't pull punches. Meaning, I like to get to the root of the problem so that we can dig out the whole root and not just the top weed that we see. Many times people think they know what their issues are but after talking about them or digging into them; just like roots; they often go off in different directions and the root of the problem you thought you had actually came from a different place. Example; you may come in for anxiety. I'm not going to fix your anxiety necessarily, what we will be working on is fixing the cause of the anxiety so that you can either control it or get rid of it altogether. So please consider this before choosing me as your counselor.
I commend you for taking the first step to taking care of yourself and your mental health. I promise you the journey is well worth it!

Tammy helped us immensely. We had a 3y court case and depressive suicidal child and somehow all got resolved in few weeks. Tammy was great for brainstorming all options and recognizing autistic and dyslexia onsets. We are forever grateful.
Tammy was great. This is my first time with any kind of therapy and it was a great start. She was great at listening. The questions she would ask me would be good to help her understand my situation better. Also her questions were good at getting me to think about what underlying problems I have been facing. She also is very friendly and I instantly felt I was able to talk with her comfortably and be myself with her.
My counsellor is professional. She’s like a friend with whom I’m sharing my problems and getting the answer. Also she’s helping me to get over my anxiety and loneliness. And helping me in building up my confidence in myself. I’m thankful to her.
you are a beautiful oasis of sanity for me. . ..thanks
Tammy is amazing and has really helped me so far.
Tammy uses a very kind approach. She really does care about the job and ensures you are treated with the upmost respect. Tammy creates an open atmosphere where you can talk freely about what you want no matter what the issue is.
Tammy is awesome so far and super down to earth. I feel like I can talk to her about anything and her experience in the field is impressive and really validating. I feel like she is a great fit for myself and she has great insight that allows me to feel safe, heard and understood.
