About me

My name is Susan, and I have been in the counseling profession for 26 years. I have an MA in Counseling, am board certified by the NCC, have a Diplomate in Psychotherapy, and am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Alabama.

I am a mother to four grown and successful children and grandmother of eight. I enjoy the challenge of working with teenagers, and despite being a grandmother, they seem to enjoy their time with me. (I too am lost without my smart phone) I see a lot of ADHD teens, as well as those with emotional, family, and school-related peer issues. Young adults and teens feel not only respected by me, but relieved to know that they are safe to tell me their stories.

I have worked with clients over a broad range of issues including, but not limited to, anxiety & depression, work related problems, parenting issues and PTSD.

I enjoy continuing education, and hold special certificates in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Family Trauma Therapy and am a Trauma & PTSD Hypnotherapist.

The counseling method I use most often is the Cognitive Behavioral approach. This is the idea that one's thoughts and perceptions influence behavior. Children, adolescents and adults can successfully benefit from this approach.

I value and respect each person as a unique human being, and I enjoy a warm, caring relationship with my clients. Helping and serving others fulfills my life's purpose.

I look forward to working with you!

Ms. Murphy is a wonderful counselor regarding everyday issues and deeper issues causing difficulties as well.

She is extremely active in her responses, giving multiple ways to formulate your thoughts and offering examples of how to control your thoughts and anxiety. She also responds in a very timely manner, often multiple times a day.

Her demeanor and her life experience are helpful in creating an inviting atmosphere where you feel open to discussing current issues without the awkward question and answer and more conversational, which helps.

Work with me!
