Welcome! I am so glad you are here. I am a licensed clinical social worker in Michigan with over 5 years of experience working as a therapist. I received my Master of Social Work from the University of Michigan and my Doctor of Social Work from the University of Southern California. I enjoy working with children, teens, young adults, and their families. I have extensive experience in autism spectrum disorders, anxiety, trauma and abuse, self-esteem, adoption and foster care, attachment, and family of origin issues. I am comfortable with and work with individuals of all races, abilities, cultures, religions, sexual orientations, and gender identities.
My approach to therapy is empathic and non-judgmental. I provide a safe and supportive environment where clients feel encouraged to explore the issues and concerns they are facing. I believe this is crucial in working with and supporting teens and young adults. Everyone has a story and I am here to listen. I meet clients where they are at and help them make sense of their issues and life experiences. I work collaboratively with clients to identify their inner strengths and provide guidance for how these can be used to tackle the challenges life brings. The core of my practice centers on empowerment and providing clients with the tools they need to embark on a journey of personal growth and development.
My clinical approach is strengths-based and client-centered. I believe in treating everyone with respect, sensitivity, and compassion. I work with teens, young adults, and families using a variety of effective approaches, including attachment-based, trauma-focused, cognitive-behavioral, narrative, solution-focused, and mindfulness therapies. I will tailor our conversations and treatment plan to meet you and your child’s unique and specific needs.
My goal is for you and your child to leave each session feeling empowered, supported, and equipped to make positive changes. I look forward to working with you and your child!

These quotes represent just a few of the many positive reviews that we have received for Dr. Sarah Bartzen. We don’t pay anyone to provide their review and they are all made voluntarily. Some people's experience receiving therapy with Teen Counseling might be different.
She was perfect for our daughter( 15) who was struggling with anxiety and the loss of her two pets. Dr. Bartzen was a good listener, patient and very flexible with scheduling. During the session we were always welcome anytime we wanted to join.
She made us all feel that we are a team and we can work this out together.
Highly recommend her.
Dr. Bartzen not only listens, but truly cares for her clients. She’s truly someone who offers 0 judgement, is gives you a 100% comfortable environment of what we call a safe space
So easy to talk to. Makes me feel comfortable to situations I’ve never shared before
She is so very kind and understanding! Easy to talk to
