About me
I am a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker with over 15 years of experience providing counseling services to adolescents, adults and families. I work a great deal with adolescents and young adults dealing with anxiety, learning issues, depression, ADHD, OCD, self-esteem, anger issues and working with military families. I have a Master's Degree from the University of Maryland-Baltimore in Social Work. I completed internships in the school system and hospital system working with children with complex medical needs. I currently am a school social worker in the Washington, DC area working with adolescents and teens.
I use a variety of therapy techniques helping my clients reach their goals that are set in a collaborative process. I strongly believe that it is a team approach in helping my client's achieve success in their treatment. My counseling style is warm and interactive. I strive on being honest with my clients and providing a safe environment to express their needs and feelings. My integrative approach combines cognitive-behavioral, dialectical behavioral therapy and solutions-focused approach. I will also ask for you open feedback about how you feel our sessions and progress are progressing. I have extensive training in G-TREM training (Girls Trauma Recovery and Empowerment), Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Intervention for Trauma in Schools (CBITS), Structured Psychotherapy for Adolescents Responding to Chronic Stress (SPARCS), and was featured implementing CBITS in a docu-series through Office of Crime Victims in “Through Our Eyes: Children, Violence , and Trauma.” (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=49GzqPP7YYk&feature=youtu.be). I work closely with parents and provide team meetings with all team members to discuss progress and make changes to the treatment goals as necessary. Team work for young people is so important and building a strong supportive team in addition to building coping skills and problem-solving skills will only enhance their progress. I have training in DBT, EMDR, TF-CBT, motivational interviewing and sand tray therapy.
It is hard to ask for help for you and your child and you have taken the first step in doing so, so that is one step towards achieving your goals. I am here to support you and your child in your journey to happiness. I strive on working with parents and their child to ensure that all goals are being met and always open to feedback. If you feel that something is not working, I encourage you to be direct with me about it.
I look forward to working with you!

Sara is awesome I love talking with her
My time with her has been wonderful and I can tell the growth I’ve made from our time together.
We have only had two sessions, and my daughter has been very happy with the experience so far.
Sara is always on time and listens to me. She offers great advice and is overall a lovely person.
