About me

Hello!
My name is Paul Andrew Germany. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Texas. I have over 15 years of experience in the mental health field and have worked with people from teens to seniors of differing back grounds, cultures, beliefs, and life choices. The majority of my career I have been employed by UTMB-CMC as a Mental Health Clinician.
I can’t remember a time when I was not fascinated and intrigued by the subject of psychology and mental health; and it remains one of my passions to this day. I pursued my BA in psychology from the University of Texas at Austin and continued my post-graduate studies in clinical psychology at Stephen F. Austin State University earning my MA. While working in the field full-time I continued to enroll in advanced counseling courses and exceeded the state’s criteria to become a License Professional Counselor. With years of continuing education and the motivation to be most effective counselor possible, I have stayed up to date with emerging theories, evidence-based techniques, and am proficient in many counseling methods. My counseling style is tailored to the individual with whom I’m working, however, I treat all with compassion, empathy and respect.
The techniques I tend to utilize most often are those that have shown to be most effective. They include Cognitive Behavioral, Client Centered, Solution Focused, and Mindfulness Based Therapies. However, this again is dependent upon the issues we are addressing and goals you wish to achieve. I have experience treating individuals and groups with a wide range of mental health issues. From life coaching to treating patients with chronic mental health disorders in an inpatient setting, from agoraphobia to trichotillomania, there are only a few areas out of my wheelhouse. In those rare cases, I would work just as hard helping you find a therapist better suited to your needs. Wither you are seeking help for a severe issue and require long term therapy or you are just wanting an old school psychodynamic experience with a warm and non-judgmental ear to listen, I’m here.
In my experience with working with teens, which is limited, I have learned that building rapport is vital to foster positive change. Life is difficult and for today's youth, this perspective has been ongoing with little evidence of it getting better. We are seeing the largest spikes in depression, bullying, drug abuse, sexual promiscuity, obesity, academic problems, and violence among our youths than ever before. When you place all these external stressors onto an individual that is naturally trying to discover themselves and the person they want to be, we find misunderstanding and poor choices in abundance. With teens today, I find that cognitive dissonance to be very real struggle. Addressing ares of self-esteem and self-efficacy while remaining grounded in reality is a difficult task for anyone, but absolutely possible.

Paul is very responsive and is a good listener. He’s good about not just telling you what you want to hear but what you need to hear. Paul also has recommended several videos, books and other references to further help as that’s something I’ve expressed an interest in (doing my own reading/research/growth). I’m grateful for his help over the past year.

Paul, is awesome. Down to earth and listens carefully. Does not push any ideas and just guides the process with some deep insights.

He’s funny, patient, and present. Paul was a great match for me. He would match my mood to help me feel comfortable and balance me when I would be unstable. He would always listen to what I say and make sure he understood my perspective on it. Very on top of remembering what I would say in previous sessions and made me feel very heard. Great at responding to my messages and even better and helping me articulate my thoughts. 10/10 would recommend

I have tried therapy several times and never felt like I was safe enough to be really honest, until Paul. He hears what I’m trying to say even when I have a hard time articulating it. He makes me feel so validated in whatever I am feeling. I feel more myself than I have in years and Paul has been a key part of that shift for me. I would recommend him a thousand times over, but just make sure there is still a weekly spot left for me!

I have been in 2 sessions with Paul so far and already feel a great weight lifted. His insights into how certain experiences have affected my behaviour are eye opening. I am very happy to be learning about how to think slightly differently, as well as understand why sometimes I feel the way I feel.

Paul also provides support and educated insight whenever I make a journal entry (which is often).

I highly recommend Paul and the teencounseling.com team, and am very glad to have joined the network.

I can’t express enough about what an amazing therapist Paul is! he has given me insight and prospective on situations / areas of my life I was blind to. He’s helped me find ways to cope and understand the situations in my life objectively but also holding me accountable when needed. I’ve never felt judged or misunderstood even with some of my craziest situations. He’s listened to my endless voice messages of difficult moments in my life while continuing with to provide guidance, hold space, and revisit or dive deeper when needed! I appreciate his work immensely and I can’t imagine having a different therapist!

It's important for me to work with someone who knows what they are taking about and Paul certainly knows his stuff. He is very easy-going and my day seems more calm/relaxed when I get to speak to him first thing in the morning. After working with Paul for a number of weeks I've decided to sign up, longer-term.

Paul has really helped me over the difficult time I am having. He listens, gives advice and makes me feel very positive after each session. I am still in the sharing information stage but I am confident I'll come out stronger and more confident. Paul is also quick to respond and I cannot thank him enough.

It's my first time taking therapy and I'm grateful it was with Paul. Whether you are expecting for a nonjudgmental ear or someone to help validate your feelings and nudge you towards a different, less painful perspective, Paul can help you.

Written on Sep 13, 2021 after therapy with Paul for 2 weeks on issues concerning depression, stress, anxiety, relationship issues, sleeping disorders, self esteem, and coaching

Paul Germany is a very down to earth chilled guy which I like as I’d feel more awkward with counsellors who are too formal and clinical. However his ability to untangle the knot you struggle to untangle by yourself is very insightful and professional. He is like having an objective friend who is on your side cheering, who happens to be very good at what he does, instead of your other friends who may not know how to help you even if they wanted to, and in-real-life friends and family sometimes give you bad advise as they are too involved in your life.

I really appreciate how affordable this company is. I had to wait 3 months with my insurance to see a therapist. In a time of crisis in my life, I knew that was not acceptable. I'm really grateful for my counselor Paul. He's really easy going and easy to talk to. I really don't think he understands how important he is in my life right now. I can feel myself healing from the inside out and it makes me wonder why I didn't start sooner. Thank you Paul if you are reading this.
