Hello! I am a Clinical Mental Health Counselor in Washington, Colorado, and New Mexico. I have worked with many populations including children, adolescents, families, and individual adults. I have also worked in a variety of settings including agency/office, schools, and military installations.
Being a teenager can be tough as you are gaining independence but still under guidelines of your parents. In my experience with teenagers what is most important is having someone to listen and be on your side. So often, adolescents difficulties are not taken seriously because "we all went through it" or "when you look back, this won't matter to you", etc. However, when you are in moment it can be difficult to look at what things may be like in the future. I am here to listen and support in all the challenges that may arise.

Melissa was just the right counselor for my daughter at just the right time in her life. She was patient, supportive, and not the least bit patronizing or overbearing. Melissa was able to listen and offer observations in a neutral way that the other adults in my daughter's life, as much as we love her, were not able to do. This was enormously valuable and appreciated. Melissa helped my daughter with school-related depression and anxiety as well as coping with newly diagnosed ADD. Melissa also communicated with me in a compassionate and encouraging way that brought me hope when it was hard for me to know how to help my daughter. I am so pleased that we connected with Melissa.
Melissa has worked hard to understand what is going on and how she can help. I've enjoyed her responses to every message I've sent her. Some of them were extremely thought provoking and challenged my ideas in positive ways that led to positive outcomes. Thank you.
Melissa is the first counselor in my 61 years that I've felt comfortable enough to follow through. Trust and abandonment along with a whole lot of other crap are issues of mine. She's truly the first professional that has been there and I feel her commitment. I'm grateful for her and I can always count on her to check in exactly when I need her. :)
I have only been working with Melissa for a couple of weeks however, in that amount of time she has been absolutely wonderful. She does a phenomenal job of responding promptly and compassionately. I've been able to share some really overwhelming life situations with her and she has been nothing but gracious. She responds helpfully and allows me to really reflect on my own thoughts while giving me some supportive feedback. I really appreciate the kind of guidance she offers.
Melissa has consistently responded to me in an objective & timely fashion when I’ve needed it. This is my first experience using this service & I would highly recommend this avenue to people who are seeking help but unable to attend face-to-face traditional counseling for whatever reason, Melissa is AWESOME!
I was a hardcore skeptic of this service, and I am thrilled (blessed) to have overcome my skepticism to connect with Melissa. She's exactly the counselor I needed: her expertise in family counseling and working with children is actually quite helpful for me (both as a childhood abuse survivor and as an at times reluctant stepmom). She's able to foster such empathy and support even thought phone calls / emails / messages -- I didn't think that would be possible outside of in-person counseling. She's patient with my long-windedness and lack of "get to the point," but she herself is quite concise with questions, advice, resources and support -- each time I've rambled my way through a reaction (or overreaction) she's had a helpful, understandable, usable tool or behavior to help -- paired with empathy and support. I'm really grateful for this service: my life (and location, and work schedule) don't allow for in person counseling right now, but I have been in the kind of "dark place" where it's not an option to skip the support entirely. I'm super grateful that I've been able to find this support through these challenges, in a way that reduces instead of adding stress to my life and calendar.
Melissa is extremely easy to talk to and so many times over the months we have been working together, she's been able to ask questions in such a way that makes me think from a different perspective to help determine why I'm having the feelings I'm having. She's been extremely helpful, caring, kind and a joy to work with during this difficult time in my life.
I think Melissa is great counselor. I think she has helped me tremendously with my struggles and she cares about what I’m feeling.
Very attentive and understanding. She really listens and tries to understand to the best of her ability. I’ve made great life progress since I’ve begun counseling with Ms Dewlen.
Very responsive and understanding.
Melissa was very responsive and a great listener. She gave great advice when I was going through a hard time, and that was exactly what I needed.
