About Me

Hello! First off, well done on looking for ways to help your life or situation get better. It's not easy to ask for help or just infer about it, so I'm glad you're looking for a therapist and taking these first steps. My name is Meagan Shorey and I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in Washington state. I have 4 year’s experience working therapeutically and have worked in a variety of therapy settings including inpatient, outpatient, and teenage specific therapy programs. I enjoy blending both development of the self and utilizing clinical therapy skills to manage relational, developmental, and internal struggles from being a human in this world.

I am trained in and can utilize different evidence based therapy models including Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT+) and Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavior Therapy (TF-CBT+) to treat symptoms of depression, anxiety, and trauma. I utilize a blend of evidence-based practices and narrative therapy to address mental health symptoms and develop healthy ways to manage anxiety, depression, mood disorders, and other mental health diagnoses. My approach to therapy is collaborative, meaning I hope you and I will develop trust to explore your perceptions and experiences in order to understand where you come from, and then develop reframed thoughts, mentalities, and actions to experience life more fully.

My demeanor is friendly, curious, and intentional. I like to utilize humor and open dialogue to get to know one another more comfortably. As someone who has also spent many years being the client, I am aware of the need for trust and connection with your therapist in order to reach the goals you've created for yourself. I believe every human is complex and unique. I enjoy incorporating other ways to “do therapy” beyond strictly talking. I offer the opportunity to incorporate art, somatization (connecting mind and body), and story themes into sessions.
